In particular, we have optimized the design of the clamps. Steerers and handlebars are now usually made of composite materials, and can easily be compromised by poor clamp design. To assure the integrity of the ARX clamp interface, we perform our own tests that go way beyond the demands of CEN standards. We even tested this new stem's compatibility with other brands of handlebars and it passed with flying colours.

The ARX TEAM is made of Al 7075 T6, with the grain structure aligned for optimal strength. A titanium bolt package brings the weight down to 120g. In addition to the usual reversible 6-degree fitment, ARX TEAM is available in a 17-degree variant for a really aggressive, low riding position.

Absolutely the highest Quality 3T have lavished their ARX with the nicest powder coated flat black finish I have seen. This stem is miles in front of anything else I have tried including Pro and Dedda - which are not in the same ball park as this one. The stem comes with titanium hardware making it one of the lightest on the market and for the price offered by Wiggle you cannot go wrong. One small warning however- the stem comes with a face plate which has '3T' perforated through it, so if you are proposing to put it on a non-3T handlebar it will show whatever marks or paint colour of your bars through the face plate. To get around this, I just cut a small piece of thin plastic from a white detergent bottle and used a light wieght glue to fix it to the inside of the face plate. The advantage is you can pick any colour plastic to suit the colour scheme of your bike. 03 July 2010

As good as it gets The ARX stem does everything it should at a very reasonable price. The look and finish of this stem is second to none (unless you want to be really picky and bring in Time and Pro massive carbon stems at 3 to 4 times the price). The plate interface and machining of the stem is superb as are the very slick and catchy graphics. Stiffness is excellent and the sizes offered will cover all but the most extreme positions. On a technical note: A torque wrench should always be used with this stem, titanium although strong is rather brittle compared to steel alloys, over tightening can result in small or complete failures within the metals structure; leading to catastrophic results. Also most modern handle bars are very thin walled, regardless of them being carbon or alloy and care should be taken to not compress the walls of the tubing. My grandfather would say “don’t try to fix a watch with a hammer” get the right tools; it is enjoyable and satisfying to do something correctly. 05 December 2009

How do you measure them stem length to replace an existing stem? Is it from end to end of the whole stem?

Answer:

No, my new 70 mm stem is measured from the centre of the bars to the centre of the steerer at the shortest point. Because of the angle you could measure at the top and bottom of the stem at the steerer and get two different measurements.

Answer:

The stem takes M5 bolts that fasten with a 4mm hex key. You can use any M5 bolts. It comes with Ti bolts so I don't see why you'd need to upgrade as alloy or nylon wouldn't be too good an idea on a stem.

Which stem will result in higher set handlebars? 17 deg or 6?

My Cervelo S2 came shipped with the 3T ARX Pro stem, looks to be a 100mm stem though I can't see any indication of its angle - would I be correct in assuming its the 6 deg? For best fit, I need to bring my bars up higher and closer to me, so can you please clarify if say the 17deg stem in 90mm for example would achieve this? Thanks

A 17 degree stem turned the correct way will bring your bars higher up and closer to you. A 6 degree stem would be the standard size fitting.

Do you know when you will you have the 140mm/06 deg 3T ARX Team Stem in stock?

I noticed that the other stem sizes that were out of stock have a projected stock date for mid may but the 140mm / 06 deg stem did not say anything in specific.

I would like to place an order for 3 additional items but I was wondering if I should wait or go ahead and place the order now for everything and just wait for the stem?
