good for cafe stops Would only recommend for use where you can se your bike preventing some scrote rolling your ride away, a bit bulky for a jersey but ok. I stick mine in my camel back and use it more for days out. 10 July 2010

What is this lock like?
i am after a lock to hold my road bike for a short while like while i pop in to a shop or order some food etc on a long ride. i have got bigger locks for longer periods. but dont want to be carrying around bulky locks on a long ride...

Perfect choice that't exactly what I use it for. Its never going to be the most secure lock but its good enough to lock your bike up whilst having a coffee/cake stop! Definitely recommend.

I find it ideal for this purpose. I used to carry a heavier lock but this is enough if I am not far from my bike (eg. in a coffee shop). It's not sufficient to leave your bike unattended for a number of hours.

Answer:

I have three Abus locks of varying sizes, for varying risks.
I use the smallest (one of these) for cafe stops when out with others on club rides in the Cotswolds. As no one else really lock their bikes, its just to stop my bike being the one taken by an opertunist without a pair of pliers on him!
If your bike is at any more risk than this I would get something a little more secure.
I have a storage container that fits in a second bottle cage. Ideal to put a bigger cable lock in ;-)

Image and description is for the old model

The image you have is for an old model of the CombiFlex 202 lock.

Also, your description says it is a 3-digit lock, whereas Abus' latest model has a 4-digit lock.

See the Abus website, or look at my attached image, to see the current model CombiFlex 202 (the left hand of the two locks shown).

Could you clarify whether you're selling the old model or the current model?

If it's the current model, you need to update the image & description to match what you're selling. Thanks.

Does it lock to a certain length?

If I want to lock it to, say, 20cm (I'm thinking of using it on my saddle bag) will it lock to that length or do I have to use the full 90cm?

You set the cable length by depressing the button and pulling out as much as you want. When the button is released the cable length is locked.

When the free end is inserted into the lock, you cannot readjust the length.

You can lock it at any length you like when not locked in. Once cable end is properly locked in you cannot adjust the cable length. It will do (as per your question) what you want it to.

It should lock to that size. All you need to do is pull it out to the length you need then lock it off by putting the end in to the lock, it stops it from pulling anymore cable out
