Winter cycling tights, also known as 'longs' are the best way to keep your leg muscles warm when the weather turns cold. Fleecy backed fabrics are comfortable next to your skin and help retain warmth, even when they're wet. Look for double-layer knees to keep your joints protected. Calf-length tights, also known as 'knickers' are great for days when it's not too cold but you want to keep your knees warm.

Three quarter leggings are an essential part of any cyclist's wardrobe. They're for those not-quite-winter and almost-summer moments where you really would feel the cold if you put your shorts on!
The fabric is thick and the seams reassuringly robust. The inner padding is encased in a bright pink lining, reminding wearers that this product is quite clearly for the ladies.
I tested size 12 and actually felt they came up quite large on me, size 10 might have actually fitted better despite my thunder thighs! The length was a about right on me, perhaps if I was a little taller the fit would be better, but I felt very comfortable.
I always think shorts and leggings fit better after a few washes, so the padding softens a little, but these were comfortable from the off and were a very welcome breath of fresh air after a winter of long tights.
There are cheaper options on the market, but I get the impression these will wash and wear well. Really comfortable and a great pear of shorts!
