The original Night Vision was an instant commuter favourite, combining massive reflectivity with Altura's proven ability to knock out good quality kit at sensible prices. This latest version turns the knob up to 11, this is one seriously bright jacket with more reflective surfaces than a glitter ball.
Altura pitch this as a waterproof jacket and our glorious summer weather very kindly assisted in testing this facility to the full. Post-ride the jacket felt pretty damp inside, but that had more to do with condensing sweat than rain soaking through. The plush two-layer fabric (more like a softshell than a normal waterproof) and mesh lining give it a luxurious feel, but they also make it very warm. Long pit-zips and a mesh vent between your shoulder blades help somewhat, but on a human kettle like me they struggled to hold back the tide. The answer is to take things a little more easily and not to treat the commute like the run-in to a bunch sprint.
Of course the main selling point is the dazzling show that the various reflective bits put on in the headlights. These bits come in a variety of flavours, stuck-on patches, heavy duty velcro straps and strips down the front zip. Oh, and a removable lightstick mounted on the rear. Some of the Mk1 Night Visions had a problem with the stuck on patches coming adrift, but Zyro assured us that the quality control process has been improved, with the result that many fewer items are returned. Perhaps they've got a hotter iron? The same goes for the zips, which have also been improved following user feedback. Zyro claim they are "among the smoothest running waterproof zips around". I'm not about to carry out a massive group test of waterproof zips but I had no problem with these. They've all got nice long toggles on them too, which makes life easier on the road, especially as there are two handpockets, a chest pocket and a rear pocket to stash your stuff in.
If you're in the market for a well made winter commuting jacket that also doubles up as a valuable safety aid then this is about as good as it gets.
In conclusion...
Top quality commuter jacket that just loves to show off in the spotlight.

I find the size to be quite short on the body.
This however is a positive as reduces the ballooning effect when cycling at speed or into the wind.
IT is a great jacket, the best cycle ever I have seen. I reccommend buying it.
I'm about 168cms tall. Female. And got a Large. I can pull the jacket down over my backside without issue, and with the help of the elastic pulls, it stays there quite comfortably - protecting everything without pulling or "riding up", when riding in even heavy rain. I ride a mountain bike without mudguards, and in a "semi racing" position. Hope that helps.
I just bought the Altura Night Vision Evo Waterproof Cycling Jacket from you - in red large size. Now I want to get a hood for it - and I note it has the attachment for a hood. It seems stupid to me that the hood come separately - but in anycase - I want a hood - where can I get it from - do you stock it and if so, how much is it. please advise.

Although I'm female, I'm wanting to get the male version of this jacket. I'm sitting at the lower end of the L size as I have really broad shoulders. Will large suffice for this (and being in riding position), or am I looking at going up to XL? Rest of the mesurements of this size seem like they are going to be fine? - Am around 168cm-170cm tall.
I don't want this to be mega baggy, and will probably not be wearing any bulky layers underneath (most likely just a baselayer) as people are saying this jacket keeps you quite warm. (Unless that doesn't count close to or sub-zero conditions, in which case will need a bit more space for a few more layers) .
Would like to get it right first time as having to return the jacket from Aussie to change sizes is understandably going to be a pain.
Any help would be much appreciated!

I usually wear an XL in most cycle jerseys, shirts etc.
The size XL is not at all baggy, therefore my advice is that it is a snugg fit.
Not sure how you would go wearing a mens though. Would depend on the size of your breasts. IF you live in Brisbane please contact me and I can let you try my size.

It is reasonably breathable but he won't take it off and be totally 'dry', I find that what I wear underneath the jacket (this time of year baselayer and jersey), and how hard I work on the bike dictates how damp the jacket gets. I have spent a lot of money on various jackets over the years and none of them are totally 'breathable' but this is one of the better ones.
