You could easily wear these over normal trousers, but if you're riding any distance, I'd opt for a good base layer.

I normally wear them over cycling apparel though tried them on over a pair of jeans which was fine. You can adjust the velcro at the bottom of the pants to keep the cuffs away from the chain quite easily

Answer:
I have been using them as overtrousers and they are fine, but they may not be breathable enough for you. I found that the fit was fairly generous and I wear them over my casual trousers fine. They are adjustable, especially around the cuffs and will certainly keep the road splatter etc off your clothes. I have started leaving my trousers at work and putting on tights or long johns under them, but its winter here and I have a 10km country road commute.

You can use these whenever you wish but they are cut specifically for cycling so you may find some areas baggy, like at the knee, when you walk in them.

Are these waterproof or just "waterproof" - will they keep me dry for a couple of hours in proper rain or do they only stand up to light showers?

How does the adjustable leg length work and how much variance does it add? I'm 6ft 3 with a 34/35 inch leg and am unsure which size will fit my leg length without the waist being like a tent.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Answers

Answer:
The waist is elasticated and can be brought in easily and the way the legs are exteneded is there are press studs on the inside and they can go down about 2 inches it insnt much so a large might be good for you.

Answer:
The bottom of the leg is turned up inside and there are press studs on the bottom of the legs that click into two different positions. The third length is with no turn up. I guess the variation in length is at least 100 mm. The last 100 mm is not zipped but as it is at the back of the leg it does not really matter.

Answer:
I don't think these trousers will be suitable for you. I measured the XL size which has a 29" inside leg at the shortest configuration. It then has a material section folded and poppered into the inside leg. This material is 4" in length so when unfolded completely the inside leg comes to 33".

Each of the 3 leg positions is subsequently 2 inches longer than the last and will allow for a customised fit. The inside leg measurement shown will be the maximum length.

I often wear boots when riding my bike and have found in the past that it's difficult to put over-trousers on due to limited opening and the leg bottoms. How far does the opening on these trousers come up the leg?

Answer:
The zip comes almost up to the knee - very easy. It doesn't affect the velcro adjusters, either, so your trousers won't catch in the chain after putting them on.

Hi,
Opening comes up to just under the knee and opens fully , i.e. not gusseted.
I wear shimanos MTB winter wellys and can almost get them on over thes without opening the zips.
2 Velcro tabs on each leg also reduce bulk once zipped in to avoid chain snags.
I love them.

Does anybody here ever wear cycling pants for skiing? For skiing you need a waterproof strong shell. Doesn't have to be insulated and the majority are not. I'm also an avid cyclist but have never purchased a pair of cycling trousers.
Main thing I need is something very waterproof. Dont want to have to buy both a pair of cycling pants and skiing pants if I can get both in one.
thanks.

Answer:
I actually had to research it quite a bit but the two dont work together. Ski clothing is MUCH more waterproof then bike wear. Usually bike wear doesnt goto the same extreme because you want your body to breath but since in skiing your already layered up to the max, breathing is not the same concern.
I had to get a gore tex ski pant -- actually a bib -- Patagonia super alpine bib ---600 bucks....its amazing though...
What I'm doing now is...using the altura trouser in the spring and autumn and going to switch to the bib during winter riding(It's insulated compared to the altura)
Also since i spend 600 on it, I want to get my moneys worth and not just use it for skiing..

Answer:
I'd have thought that cycling trousers would need to be a lot more waterproof than ski-ing ones. Its not often that you get water thrown at you when ski-ing - snow is usually cold enough to stay on the outside.
I'm a little confused as my ski-ing trousers are a lot more insulated than my cycling ones. I'd have thought that if you were wearing non-insulated ski-ing trousers, they would be skin-tight and built for speed.
