Faultless performer in 250 miles of rain
I just rode 950 miles in 9 1/2 days on LeJOG and agonised about buying a new waterproof before I went and getting it right.. I'd seen the Pocket Rocket and was worried that it was a bit short - but brillianty fitted, and that it wasn't made of a fabric renowned for performance in my eyes. Having ridden 250 of those miles in torrential rain and another slug in chills and drizzle this jacket was totally waterproof and totally breathable and exceeded all my expectations by miles.
I've only been a cyclist since Feb, but I've ridden around 2500 miles. Coming from a mountain walking background and being partial to a decent sweat I had learnt through long personal experience that if it wasn't made of Goretex, and XCR/Pro Shell at that, it almost certainly wouldn't be totally waterprrof (easy) and totally breathable (much harder).
Well forget all that. I don't remember the billing for this Altura Pocket Rocket jacket blinding me with some fantastically named fabric but it is the best performing waterproof and breathable jacket I have had in any high energy sport over the years bar none. It is totally waterproof in the most foul of sustained torrential abuse but much more difficult to find it was totally breathable and unbelieveably so during the 10 mile climb over Shap Fell.
It packs up into a mesh sack that fits in your rear jersey pocket with ease and it's a brilliant trim cycling fit but not too so for a chunkier new cyclist like me. To put this in context both myself and my no body fat mate both have them and the appropriate size fits each of us snugly so I guess it's just a well engineered shape.
I was worried when I saw it as it is shortish, but it performs so well that this doesn't seem to matter. When my jersey pockets were over stuffed it did sit a little above the pockets but it was only the pockets that got wet and not me.
I previously had a less fitted, lpnger, baggier and heavier so called waterproof - and it wasn't. The Pocket Rocket is amazing and I would choose it any time over anything else. It's fitted, it packe really small, it looks great, it's waterproof and it's amazingly totally breathable. So much so that I kept chucking it on as a wind cheater when it was chilly which is unheard of for me as normally the sight of a waterproof makes me sweat.
This is very possibly the best bit of kit I have bought, and I've certainly bought a lot of kit since Feb including eye wateringly priced Italian and Swiss exotica,
This is a great jacket and brilliant value. I would recommend it toanyone and I will buy it again whenever necessary.

Excellent product
Great product I was looking for a light weight and compact jacket to fit in my back pocket on long rides, This ticks all the boxes.
It also keeps me nice and dry on long wet rides and with a larger size you add layers for warmth.
However it would benifit from a back pocket.

Brilliant piece of kit.
Can't fault it! Ultra light and compact. This jacket stays permanently in by back pack and I don't notice it there. It is waterproof and windproof just like they say. It does fit a little high on the waist and yes, it could do with being a little longer in the tail. It looks good whilst on the bike but awful off it. Don't buy this jacket as a general purpose waterproof - bike use only.

Great compact jacket
Tiny packable and breathable jacket at a reasonable price. Sizing and cut are minor issues. I'm usually a medium (5'9'' medium build) but the medium was far too short on the arms and front of jacket. Large is perfect fit but the back does have a tendency to ride up. I'm new to cycling but have thrown myself in to weekend tours and full time commuting. I'm trying to build up my kit on a budget and hoped to use this as an all year jacket. I now don't think this is realistic as the lightweight material used to make the jacket packable doesn't look like it could withstand heavy winter wear and tear. A perfect jacket to have stuffed away for the odd spring thru autumn down pour. I'm now looking for a medium weight winter jacket.

It is short and this was my greatest worry, but having ridden 1000 miles in 10 days with it I would say this.It is the best performing totally waterproof and more importantly totally breathable jacket I've had over the years in any high energy sport and this more than mitigated tha shorter cut.

Would this jacket stand up to winter weather? I'm buying it for my boyfriend who wants a windproof, waterproof jacket that can be worn throughout winter.
He's a 40 inch chest and 6ft 1 so I was goin to buy the large but it seems it doesn't protect against the cold so maybe I should go a size larger for layers.

everyone is different, i run cold but ride in a windproof to commute in the winter, adding this on top if it rains and its fine. its very small and shoves in by bag when I am riding its waterproofing is fab, although its light as a shell and wont be enough on its own.personally, i prefer to separate the windproof and waterprood layers as i think it works better to keep warm, dry and not sweaty, but then i live in london and it doesnt rain too much here.

If you have a windproof jersey or thermal baselayer you should be fine with this jacket through the winter, it will keep most of the elements off of your body. For warmth I would recommend that at least one thermal layer is worm underneath during the winter, it is not a warm jacket.I would recommend a Large size for best fit.
