The Laguna features a compact Campagnolo Veloce chainset which, coupled with a wide range of sprockets on the cassette, gives you a broad range of gears for both good flat out speed and climbing work alike. The remainder of the group is Veloce too (often somewhere manufacturers choose to save money is cheaper brake calipers, chainset or front mech - not here) which is both good quality and lightweight, offering good shifting and braking performance without costing the earth.

The groupset is great but the most important part of this bike is the frame. The Laguna frame is Basso's most accessible carbon fibre offering but there's nothing budget about the ride it delivers. It uses a combination of Torayca TR50 and MR60 carbon fibre with a UD (unidirectional) finish and results in a road bike which is both comfortable, strong and responsive.

The Laguna is finished throughout with good quality in-house brand Microtech parts. This includes the alloy clincher 'Krium' wheels, handlebars, stem and seatpost and helps to keep the Laguna competitive at the scales and at the checkout.

Great Value The frame has a great finish and with its long top tube is very stable. Campy shifting is quite predictable. The Basso house brand Microtech components are a bit of a mixed bag. The Microtech brakes are absolutely fantastic, stopping as good as any Campys I've used. The Microtech wheels make some noise on hard ascents but have stayed true for 800 miles so far. The hard seat and too long stem required changing immediately. Microtech seatpost and crank are rather simply finished and I will upgrade when winter gets here for aesthetics. Keep in mind that the Laguna Veloce means Veloce shifters, front and rear derailleurs only. All other components are the Basso house brand. Still for the money, this bike is a winner! 24 July 2012

basso laguna I am 6' 2" and went for the 58 and with a swap to a shorter stem it fits me perfectly.Only done 100 miles but it feels very responsive and lively compared to my ali framed Giant. I bought it to make me feel good when riding in summer months not to up my average speed as I only ride for fitness and pleasure but I;m sure it fits both criteria. The frame is beautifully detailed and finished and you feel like you have something special which is surely what having a carbon bike is all about 21 July 2012

Awesome Bike I was looking to upgrade my old alloy frame bike to a carbon frame and was lucky enough to see this deal on wiggle for the Basso Laguna Veloce. I checked out a few reviews and they were pretty good so I decided to take the plunge and buy the bike. I received the bike and opened the box and wow! this bike looked fantastic. I adjusted a few things then I was off for a ride. Well what can I say? The ride was smooth and the bike felt very responsive. I also noticed my average speed on my trip computer had increased, so it was quick too. Overall a wonderful looking bike that meets all my expectations. Cheers Guys! 15 July 2012

A great decision to buy this bike Firstly, who am I - A fat but quite fit 46 year old bloke, 19 stone and 6'3 who has been mountain biking for 9 months and been tempted to try road biking. I had considered spending a lot less but our local bke shop owner (who only sells Specialised and Canondale) said that I had to be careful because of my weight and the strenght of the wheels. I saw the Basso Laguna, thought it looked great, and did some research. I liked what I found on the internet and from speaking to a colleague who is a very keen cyclist. The bike arrived promptly and my first ever road bike ride was 39 miles at an average pace of 15.3 mph with one severe climb and other longer but lower gradients. The bike was an absolute dream apart from slight problems moving the front derailleur but this could just be bedding in. The ride was lovely and even the saddle was comfortable - Beverley Big G here I come!! 03 July 2012
