Review from
Bicycle Buyer
The Battaglin Start is an exceptional bike. The alloy frame performs well partnered with Battaglin's own 'Alps' carbon fork, while geometrically, it strikes a well considered balance between entry level racer and sportive bike; racy, yet stable controlled and comfortable. The Campagnolo Veloce brakes and Xenon front and rear mechs are outstanding by any standard. As well as enhancing performance, the Campagnolo components add value and desireability to the bike, which will appeal to novices and experts alike. Battaglin have established who their customer is when compiling the Start and have fitted the bike with a compact FSA chainset and a 10-speed 12-25 cassette, ideal for up hill and down dale and much, much more.
In conclusion...
Would we buy it? - Absolutely, though it's the most expensive bike we tested it's still an incredibly affordable bike that offers ride characteristics more akin to a machine much higher up the pricing ladder. The Campagnolo parts are an unexpected treat that we didn't think we'd find on a bike in the entry-level category, as are the Miche wheels. The Battaglin is a perfect 'Start' out bike (ahem) for anyone looking to dip a toe into road cycling.
