The C17s is slightly shorter than the C17 and more suited to the female anatomy. To the eye, the C17s may appear quite racy in its shape and lines, which indeed it is, however the geometry and dimensions are based closely on that of our most recognizable model, the B17s, ensuring the same timeless comfort mile after mile. A saddle you can really settle into.
The uniquely flexible, maintenance-free, waterproof top is designed to follow the rider’s movements to deliver immediate comfort and ease of use. The new construction of Cambium Saddles works like a hammock and delivers immediate comfort while absorbing vibration and shock, performance traditionally found only with natural leather saddles.
The Cambium owes its remarkably natural look and feel to a woven organic cotton textile. After the vulcanization process, the cotton is then treated with Brooks Numac to completely protect the saddle against the elements.
Cambium Saddles are designed to be ready for use out of the box, requiring no initial or ongoing care or maintenance. This saddle is assembled from replaceable parts and requires no special tools for servicing. The vulcanized rubber top is
practically indestructible; should your Cambium frame suffer an unfortunate accident, repairs can be quickly and easily accomplished by you or your Brooks Dealer.
About Performance Saddles
Performance saddles are narrower than the models designed for shorter ride comfort. They're intended for riders who have a committed riding style with weight on hands and feet so they're narrower and lighter. High tech padding materials and flexible body designs keep your pressure points comfortable and lightweight chassis components keep the weight down. Most have some kind of ergonomic design to reduce pressure on nerves and allow unrestriced blood flow to your sensitive areas. Womens models have a wider design to suit their naturally wider pelvis. Saddle widths vary across the ranges from narrow (upto 130mm), medium (upto 138mm) to wide (upto 146mm). Narrower saddles are the popular choice for longer distance riders as they do not cause the hips to be placed in an unnatural position. Wider saddles will often feel comfortable initially due to their greater surface area but then progressively decrease in comfort as the miles increase, the correct choice of saddle is a case of getting the balance between initial comfort and overall comfort.
About the Brooks England brand
The Brooks bike saddle story started way back in 1866, a young man of just 19 years of age was said to have bought 'one of those new-fangled velocipedes' which was fitted with a wooden saddle, this proved excruciating. As luck would have it his father made leather saddles for horses, so the young man known as John Boultbee Brooks set to work in his fathers workshop designing and developing a comfortable saddle from leather.
The rest they say is history....
Brooks experience in saddle making goes right back to the beginning - back to the period of solid tyres - and is unequalled by any other house in the world.
That said, they recognise the fact that they cannot rely on their past history alone, so they still build saddles with the same attitude as when they started, 'quality first', both in materials and manufacture. The testament to this is that there are still saddles in active use today, made many many years ago.

Magazine reviews for Brooks England Women's Cambium C17s Saddle
Review from Bikeradar
Brooks has been around since 1866 and has been making bike saddles since 1882. It's rare for any new Brooks design to arrive â€" especially one not made of leather, making this animal-friendly saddle one that can be used by vegans.
The Cambium is made using vulcanised rubber (viewed from underneath it's the colour of elastic bands) into which organic cotton canvas has been infused to create the textured surface. It has a die-cast aluminium structure rather than steel to reduce weight.
Though it is much lighter than the B17 design on which it's based, at 417g it is still portly by the standards of most of today's saddles. It is slightly narrower than the B17 â€" 162mm rather than 175mm â€" and at 283mm the C17 is also 8mm longer, making it feel a little more sporty. But the saddle’s big difference is comfort.
Sit on the C17 and you can immediately feel the hull give. Anyone who has owned a Brooks saddle will know that the breaking-in process can take a while. Well, the compliant and cushioning Cambium arrives feeling just like a leather saddle that's been broken in for 10 years.
We were concerned that the vulcanised rubber might lead to a bouncing, trampolining effect, but it actually gives and moves in a controlled manner. The result is a truly exceptional level of comfort unlike that of any saddle, traditional or modern. If getting the right saddle is proving a difficult job â€" and if you don't mind the extra weight â€" the Cambium could be the ideal choice.
In addition to its comfort, the C17 is waterproof, and we found its textured surface easy to clean. It also comes with a no-quibble 10-year guarantee, and all the parts are replaceable. It is available in slate (pictured) and tan and there's a shorter, female-friendly model.
"Comfortable like a well-worn-in leather saddle"
