Top Features of the Camelbak Mule NV 3 Litre Hydration Pack
The M.U.L.E NV is the elite version of the market's most popular mountain bike pack, which itself has been redesigned for 2009.
- Hydration: 3.0L
- Cargo: 10L
Offering the optimum combination of organised and overflow storage with enough hydration for over 3 hours on the trail, the M.U.L.E NV includes the new low profile N.V.I.S (Next Generation Ventilated Integrated System) back panel. This provides multidirectional ventilation with reservoir integration to maintain a centre of gravity close to your back. Including the Dynamic Suspension harness and a built-in raincover, the M.U.L.E NV is ready for anything.
About Hydration Systems
Letting yourself get dehydrated is the quickest way to compromise your performance and ruin your fun. A hydration system lets you carry a good amount (usually 2 or 3 litres) of water without interfering with your hands and with a convenient valve to drink from whenever you like. During intensive exercise, you'll need to drink around 1 litre of water every hour which means sipping little and often - much easier if you don't have to stop what you're doing and locate a bottle. Adding an energy drink to the water makes the process even more effective and can enhance performance. Make sure you choose a cleaning kit to go with your system or you'll be buying a new reservoir regularly! Different systems combine varying amounts of hydration capacity with a wide variety of cargo options, meaning you can carry everything from an energy bar to all the gear you need for a full day out.

Magazine reviews for Camelbak Mule NV 3 Litre Hydration Pack
Review from Bikeradar
The Mule has long been Camelbak's most popular hydration pack, and for good reason. It's a handy size, is well made and has a design that makes it easy to use.
We stuffed the Mule NV with a mini pump, patch kit, multi tool, mobile phone, GPS, cash, keys, base layer and windproof, and still got the full 3L bladder in there easily.
We dropped, dragged, soaked and sat on it, and the Mule never complained; its character reminding us why Camelbak is still the most popular hydration pack brand.
The load can be secured and compressed while the padded shoulder straps allow it to be positioned in a range of locations on your back to suit your riding style. The Camelbak bite valve is excellent too.
The new Mule features Camelbak's NV supported and vented back system. It is comfortable and works well, allowing some extra air flow, though it's something we feel we could easily do without - especially as our other favourite hydration packs (Wingnut and Salomon for example) don't have it.
We've never given the sweaty back issue much thought, even after thousands of hours riding with different hydration packs in all weathers. Losing the NV would remove the bag's unique selling point but would lower weight and help the pack to swallow a wider variety of load shapes.
In conclusion...
A solid performer with top fluid and load carrying capabilities
