The chainring has a new design that increases its rigidity for greater power transfer with the outer chainring being equipped with 8 pins, which facilitate the ascent of the chain in many more points with respect to other chainrings on the market.
The new 11s chainrings have been designed in such a way as to have two sectors specialised for ascent and two for descent, which makes shifting much faster and without hesitation. The teeth of the inner chainring have an asymmetrical profile to facilitate the descent of the chain from the outer chainring.
About Chainsets
Your chainset must fit onto your bottom bracket! There are currently four chainset/bottom bracket interfaces that you're likely to come across. If your bottom bracket is made by Shimano and it has splines, then you need an Octalink chainset. If your b/b is NOT made by Shimano and it has splines, it's almost certainly ISIS. There are a very few non-Shimano chainsets with Shimano Octalink interfaces so, to be sure, count the splines - ISIS has 9, Octalink has (surprise, surprise) 8. No matter which brand of b/b you have, if it has a square interface, it will require a traditional square taper chainset. If you have one of the new Hollowtech II systems, you will need to choose the exact chainset that matches your bottom bracket. Most MTB chainsets are now 9-speed compatible but these will work with an 8-speed system.

Magazine reviews for Campagnolo Athena 11 Speed Alloy Chainset 2010
Review from Cycling Plus
Campagnolo, in an example of the Italian company continuing to plough their own furrow, are - at the moment anyway - refusing to go down the BB30 oversized bottom bracket route.
They're sticking with their UltraTorque two-piece bottom bracket axle, the ends of which have interlocking teeth.
It's stiff and straightforward to install, though we're not convinced that the circlip is needed between the drive-side bottom bracket cup and the crank spider, which is designed to prevent the bottom bracket cup unscrewing.
The all-alloy chainset looks great; a version with a carbon spider is also available, 125g lighter but over £100 dearer. The combination of chainset, front mech and chain performed flawlessly, smooth and accurate.
In conclusion...
Great looks, good performance, but no lightweight
