The Ultra-Drive system makes shifting more precise and fluid, especially thanks to the careful machining and treatments that the sprocket teeth have undergone. The special sprockets pattern interfaces perfectly with the rest of the drivetrain components, especially the chain and chainrings, thus bringing performance to levels of outstanding excellence. The sprockets are made with the same type of steel as Record and Chorus sprockets. The only difference is that they use a different system of supports and spacers.
The form of the sprocket teeth ensures the best grip for the chain. Strength has also been improved by the nickel-chrome treatment.
The sprockets are all single.
About Cassettes & Freewheels
Cassettes and freewheels for bikes are a cluster of sprockets in a range of sizes offering a multitude of gear ratios. The difference between the two is, a cassette slots onto the freehub, which has the ratchet built in and is then secured with a lockring, whereas a freewheel is a cluster of sprockets built around a ratchet and threads directly on to the hub. Cassettes and freewheels come in many ratios, close ratio is when the number of teeth increase in small increments of 1 or 2 at a time, whereas a wide ratio is when the teeth increase in larger increments of 3 or 4 at a time. Most systems will use a cassette hub as these allow for a wider bearing spacing and increased axle life, you can also fit a larger quantity of sprockets onto a cassette hub with 11 speed systems now becoming available. With cassettes you must use the appropriate spacing for your gear levers and rear mech, Shimano and Campagnolo are not interchangeable so you will need to match the cassette to your levers for smooth and precise shifting. Sram and Shimano chains and cassettes will work together as they use the same spacing.

Magazine reviews for Campagnolo Centaur Ultra Drive 10 Speed Cassette 2010
Review from Bikeradar
For 2008 the only change to the Centaur sprockets is the addition of 'macro' spacers, which are basically just smaller on their outside diameter, but otherwise the same. Why change something that is proven to work?
Campagnolo sprockets used to have deep teeth on them, and while this resulted in clunkier shifting compared to Shimano, it also meant they lasted for ages in comparison. Ultra-Drive changed that a little, with the teeth 'topped' slightly to facilitate quicker and smoother shifting, along with a range of new chains.
Steel sprockets like these on an alloy carrier that are galvanised, and then have a chromoly-nickel plating that is PTFE-impregnated, should last a long time.
In conclusion...
Simple, hard wearing, solid and dependable
