About Brake Levers

Bicycle brake levers come in two formats, road or hybrid / mountain bike. Road levers are designed to fit dropped handlebars whereas mtb / hybrid levers are designed to fit flat handlebars. Some brake levers will incorporate the gear levers as well, these are known as Double Tap, Ergo's or Sti's (Shimano Total Integration), this makes shifting through the gears and braking a simultaneous operation and cornering at speed a lot safer. Crosstop style brake levers are becoming popular on cyclocross, tourers and road bikes, these fit in line with the brake cables and allow you to control the brakes from the tops of the handlebars.

Feels extremely secure I got these to give my steel bike a semi-classic look with downtube levers (Wiggle...add the 10-speed Dura-Ace levers to the lineup!) and was initially dumbfounded at the very cheap price believing this was for one single brake and almost ordering two. Happy surprise to find out this was indeed the price for a PAIR of these magnificent brakes! I understand that the shape of the hood is an exact copy of the Campagnolo Record and the fit really works fantastic on hillclimbs out of the saddle, very comfortable and secure-feeling. The "Campa" release pin is also very convenient when swapping wheels. I use Shimano brakes on my steel bike and this give double leeway so one could easily mount fat tires if one wanted. The lizard pattern in the rubber hood functions as anti-slip and the lizard etched in the lever itself looks very cool too. 25 March 2010

Great value lever! These are REALLY great value brake levers! Second cheapest road lever wiggle offers but you wouldn't know it to use them. The day after I put them on I did a 40km ride and they were comfortable on the hoods, responded well when braking and looked great on the bike. If you're overly worried about weight they may not be for you, but in terms of build quality, looks, usability and price, these are unbeatable!! 02 March 2010

Comfortable - Works with avid bb-7 disc brakes I got these to fit a surly disc trucker. The original Tektro levers had too much distance between bars and levers, trycky to get hold of, and I've got the kind of hands that are so big its hard to find gloves for. The hoods are also a LOT comfier too. wider in general, and just better, without that annoying pointy bit that the Tektro's have stuck out the top. Top that off with them being pretty cheap, and you honestly can't complain. I think theyve got slightly better modulation control over the brakes too which has the effect of making the calipers easier to adjust somehow. Easy to fit. You can just remove the cable inner and take the opportunity to give em a bit of loooob (as to my surprise my cables on my posh new bike were just dry, not an ounce of any kind of lubrication there) , unscrew the old ones and screw these directly into the ring/captive nut fitting that is already present on the bar. No need to re-wrap. Very pleased. 20 October 2012

These are well made brake levers. Easy to fit, definetly increase of power to the brakes. Highly recommend these. 23 September 2012

do these work with regular MTB V brakes?

i'm looking for a lever setup to go drop-style with bullhorns - am i better off going dia compe 287V or will these do it with V's?

These levers are for road brakes. V brakes require more cable pull. The 287 V is suitable or find a pair of Tekro levers which are designed for V brakes

The Dia Compe 287V will work well, or the Cane Creek SCR-5V. The regular Cane Creek lever will not work well with standard V brakes, as it does not pull enough cable.

If you mean 26mm at the stem clamp, yes. If you mean 26mm where the levers clamp, I dont think so.

The colour options are "black" and "silver". Does this refer to the color of the levers, or the hoods, or both?

i.e. if I order "black", will the brake levers and hoods be entirely black? (I want completely black brakes, with no silver at all!)

They pull the right amount of cable to operate canti brakes but you'll need adjusters somewhere... usually on the brakes hangers.

Probably but not exactly sure. The info sheet that comes with the levers say they are not compatible with linear pull brakes or V-Brakes. To be sure send an email to Cane Creek.....look at the "Contact" section of their web site.

These levers will work with canti brakes as long as you have some means of adjusting the brakes... usually there are barrel adjusters on the brake hangers.
