Cateye's Opticube technology is combined with 10, yes 10, ultra bright red LEDs for unparalleled brightness - incredibly, this light is 80% brighter than the previous king of rear lights, the LD1000.

6 LEDs face backwards and 2 are positioned on each end - each row can be independently controlled through 4 different modes for a total of 16 different combinations.

About Rear Lights

Almost all bicycle rear lights use LEDs instead of filament bulbs as they are more reliable and use much less battery power, whilst also offering much higher levels of brightness. Used in flashing mode, they are very good at attracting attention from other road users. It's advisable to use at least two rear bike lights, a common configuration is one flashing and one in constant, this is highly advisable just in case one stops or becomes obscured.

In order to cycle on the road it may be a legal requirement in your country to use a light certified to a specific standard or an international equivalent. Most but not all lights sold on Wiggle are certified and labelled with a European CEN standard. Cateye's big barrel light has the most LEDs, with three powerful diodes in two rear-facing rows and two more at each end.

Each tier also has a separate button to toggle between constant, flash and ripple modes. The all-round visibility is the best here and battery life is over 100 hours on the two AAs supplied. Sealing is good and battery replacement is tool free, but keep checking the bolted clip mount - we lost two LD 1100s due to them falling off loose clamps.

In conclusion...

Super bright all-round visibility but the clamp needs regular checking

Ideal with a rack If you are using a rack for your commuting, this light is a perfect choice. I've bolted mine to my tortec ultralight and it sits right at the rear of the bike with no fear of losing it while cycling. The extremely bright LEDs mean you have no fear of being missed and the 2 independent rows of lights mean you can have a steady / flashing combo for attention grabbing and legal lights in one package. The tight rubber seal keeps the worst weather away from the internals, and the tight clip to the battery access panel securely fastens to the main body. The only issue I have is that the fit for rechargeable batteries is too tight and it can be pain swapping batteries out. However, the battery life is sufficient to not make this a common problem. 15 July 2010

Bright Light Visible during the day aswell as at night. Useful for those early mornings when riding into the sun - Gives motorists a little more to see. Only area for improvement would be to include some velcro or other attachment device for an integrated seat post - although nothing that a zip tie can't fix! 15 June 2010

Excellent purchase for a rear light This is a great rear light and I understand why it is popular. It has 2 rows of 5 LEDs and each group of 5 LEDs has 4 modes that can be set independent of the other LED group. No problem so far, have used it in the rain as well. Bright at night. No problem from Wiggle either. Can be mounted on a seat post or on a bag. All in all, great buy 07 October 2011

Yes the bracket can be bought separately. It comes in two parts, the Cateye light clamp SP7 or SP6 depending on the circumference of your seat post (SP7 is wider) and the LD120/500/AU100/LD600/1000 tail light bracket.
Both parts are pretty cheap and well worth the purchase.

What size of tail light bracket does this light take?

Clip appears to be model C-1. clamps in box are SP6 and SP 7. Bracket that the clip slides into does not have a model number on it but my box would seem to indicate that it is #544-0980 according to the 'spares accessories' section.

Yes. It comes with a separate fitting so you can attach it to something like a TopPeak saddle pack. Note though, if you go over something considerably bumpy (like up a curb) then it can sometimes pop out and land on the floor. I've fixed this by using some cable ties to stop it from being able to bounce out.

No it doesn't.
I think it would mess up the beam shape if rotated.
Also one of the things I like about the light is the LEDs at the side, improving side-on visibility, which you wouldn't get if rotated.
