Open tubular differ from traditional clinchers for the construction. The tyre is produced just like a tubular and uses the same materials and production process. Instead of being sewed with an inner tube inside, at the end of the process beads are made by folding the casing around Aramid fibres threads.
For this reason an open tubular gives very similar ride feel of that of a tubular, mainly if a latex inner tube is used. Mounting an open tubular on a wheel is the same as mounting a standard clincher but with the advantage of riding a much more comfortable and performing tyre.
About Cyclocross Tyres
Cyclo Cross tyres are for use with road wheels to allow them to be ridden off road. They range from 30 to 35mm wide and are designed with different tread patterns to suit the various conditions that can be encountered during the Cyclo Cross season. Usually at the start of the season the ground is dry and hard so a narrower low tread tyre is needed as low rolling resistance is a priority. Later in the season when the ground is wet, grip is a priority so a wider tyre with increased tread would be the better option.
