The polished steel frame of the Mixer 8 Limited Edition features some lovely key touches and includes double water bottle cage bosses, straight bladed polished forks, and front and rear disc brakes.

The Mixer 8 also comes equipped with Charge parts that compliment the look of the frame like the Charge Griddle bar grips, and Charge Spoon saddle.

The wheels supplied are very strong and are able to withstand the stresses of city life. Fitted with Charge Coaster tyres (700x32c), these bad boys will tackle any road surface you decided to ride over.

The Mixer 8 looks and feels like a single speed, but is actually an 8 speed geared bike. The Alfine 8 speed internal hub provides trouble free shifting without all the bulkiness of conventional gearing and with the 8 speeds, you'll have plenty of choice to choose from.

Great commuter bike to keep you dry Having ridden a Charge Plug as a commuter for the last 2 years I was fed up of the lack of wet weather protection. The Charge Mixer with its full mudguards and Alfine hub fits the bill admirably. I have been really impressed by the Alfine 8 speed hub on this bike. Akin to Volkswagen DSG gear box, the change in gear is instantaneous - no chain clicking or deraillieur delay. My only gripe is that the up and down shifter for the hub operates the opposite way round to my Specialized Stumpjumper. The forefinger down shift cannot be clicked down if your forefinger is on the front brake. Admittedly you can shift the gears whilst standing still, but the inability not to be able to downshift whilst braking was initially disconcerting. I keep trying to click down with my thumb only to find I am going up the gears. That said, it's a minor issue. The rest of the bike is fabulous with great colours and a splash of my favourite (orange) as well. The mudguards do a fab job of keeping me dry and the issue of soggy cycliing shorts for my home commute appears to be a thing of the past. 06 October 2012

197cm - Size Large?

Im a 197cm with an inseam measurement of 87cm will a size large be OK?

I'm 190cm tall but with 91cm inseam. The size large was fine for me once I installed a longer stem (110mm), which is what I would recommend you do (maybe even 120).

you have similar leg length to me, 34" so a large would fit fine , these are designed to be cycled pretty upright too.

Chain tension without horizontal dropouts

It appears that this bike doesn't have horizontal dropouts. The question then is "How do you tension the chain?"

Having bought the bike I asked myself the same question. There appears to be an adjustable crank that can be moved and tensioned with a hex/allen key. Have yet to have a play with it myself yet though

Is the Charge Mixer 8 Special Edition polished frame protected in any way?

What sort of steel is the frame? Is it a Chrome/moly formulation? Like Reynolds 531 or quite what? Will the finish yellow with age, etc. I am concerned with corrosion in high humidity locations like the coast of Florida. Sorry if my question is somewhat naive, but I am only now getting back into the cycling world after an absence of 40 or so years... Things have changed!

I should have realised - the finish is a painted finish, not a polished finish - that's just the name of the paint! Looks terrific. I received my bike in the US in under a week from the time of ordering. Although the packaging was damaged the bike survived with one scratch on the rear fork and one on the mudguard that I may be able to polish out. Is a polished silver touch up available for the frame?

Sales Tax

For those of you who have shipped to USA, have you had to pay custom taxes at all?

Also, I am in a toss up between the Charge 2012 Tap at a local bike store for $704 out the door versus this Charge 2013 Mixer 8 at $1087...

I will be using this bike for commuting to work 10 miles and for weekend trips around San Francisco...

I haven't seen a Tap in person, but I reckon disc brakes are a very useful upgrade, especially if you have hills or bad weather, I'm really impressed by them. The only other major difference I can see is the eccentric bottom bracket vs horizontal dropouts, so chain adjustment should be easier.

What are the differences between the mixer 8 sepcial edition and the regular mixer?

In particular for the frame, is it the same (Tange Prestige)? Other differences except for the color, for example de disks seems different.

Is this "limited edition" a cheaper version on the regular model?

As it says in the description, it comes with the Alfine. For competitive (and quality) reasons, in USA, Trek has upgraded it's commuter bike (Soho) from the Nexus to Alfine, but still has front disk brake only.
