Chris King have been making stainless steel bearings at their headquaters for 34 years and never has there been a component that benefited more from their quality than the external bottom bracket.

The Chris King bottom bracket is specifically designed for crank systems with outboard bearing cups and is available in the full assortment of colours that only King can do.
It all starts with the bearings. They make their own bearings in-house and their process allows them to place more balls per bearing, 24 to be exact, than their competitors - more rolling elements per bearing translates to a stronger overall bearing system.
A bottom-bracket specific upgrade to the legendary sealing system allows the bearings to be purged and re-greased using King's precision made injector tool. This combination of strength and serviceability gives them the confidence to offer an industry-leading 5-year warranty on all bottom brackets.
Compatibility: King offer bottom bracket cups in combination with a plastic centre sleeve and three anodized 2.5mm chainline spacers for 24mm crank axle systems such as Shimano Hollowtech II. Only 108 grams
New for 2010 is the SRAM-compatible 24mm stepped axle configuration. The stepped axle Chris King bottom bracket makes use of a fit kit to match the crank axle to King's standard cups and bearings but without use of chainline spacers. 125 grams.
About Bottom Brackets
Bicycle bottom brackets connect the cranks to the bike and allow the crank arms to rotate. There are various sizes of bottom bracket shell on the market, so compatibility needs to be checked. The three most common frame bottom bracket shell widths are 68mm (English threaded road and mtb), 70mm (Italian threaded road) and 73mm (British threaded mtb). There are also many axle shapes and styles, from JIS or ISO square tapers through to the round splined axles such as ISIS or Octalink and then there is the new external cup systems which have the axle built into the crank arms. Some frames are now using the new BB30 system which uses bearings pushed directly into the frame and removes the needs for cups to be threaded into the frame.
