There's something comforting about a product thats been on the market for a long time - it builds reassurance and confidence, and the feeling that they got it right first time. Cinelli's Ram bar is one such product. Cinelli has now added the Ram2 - Not as a replacement but as an expansion of the range. It has a 'classic Italian' shape to the drops rather than an 'ergo' geometry.
Made from T700 HM carbon, a complete redesign has taken place to create the Ram2, and some of the feel that made the original so comfortable has gone, but the reality is that bikes have moved on, too, so the rider's needs have changed. The Ram2 is in the line with these changes, offering stiffness and compliance to compliment a carbon rather than aluminium bike. The trouble for Cinelli is that since the original came out a number of manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon, so you can get a similar item for almost half the price of the Ram.
Even taking the £44 premium for the Bianca into account, these are some seriously expensive bars and therefore hard to justify on a simple performance basis, yet if you can afford them they are awesome.
In conclusion...
The Ram2 offers a stiff and comfortable bar with a unique look and is one of the few bars that gets all the proportions spot-on.
