The discreet coloured bead strip allows you to colour coordinate the tyre to match your bike perfectly without losing the BlackChili tread performance. The GP4000 S II is versatile enough for race wheels or training wheels.
Continental have also expanded the size range with an additional 28 mm version added. This provides improved grip in poor riding conditions, increased puncture protection and greater comfort. The proven aspects of the 4000 S II remain unchanged and handmade in Germany of course.
Vectran is a synthetically manufactured high-tech fibre from a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran is a liquid-crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran is spun from melted liquid polymer Vectra and processed further to a multi-strand thread. Spider silk, like Vectran, has an enormous tear resistance at a very low weight – exactly the right properties to process into a premium Continental bike tyre as a puncture protection insert. A Vectran Breaker is lighter, more flexible and protects more effectively against cuts than the comparable nylon breaker. Vectran Breaker does not adversely affect the rolling resistance.
Continental refine newly developed synthetic rubbers with natural rubber with the proven high-performance tread compound. They use these rubbers with special nanometric carbon soot particles, which are optimized in shape and surface properties for best uses for the intended tyre. BlackChili Compound reaches an unprecedented of performance. Tyres with BlackChili Compound reach an unprecedented level of performance. Compared to the previous best Activated Silica Compound, BlackChili tyres have 26% less rolling resistance, a 30 % higher friction value (grip) and a 5 % increase in mileage.
About Road Race Tyres
These tyres are for racing style bikes that use clincher/hooked rims, these are the most common fitment and hook onto the rim and require an inner tube. There is a wide choice of tyres within this category and the right choice is important. Lighter tyres will accelerate quickly, but will be more prone to punctures so getting a balance is extremely important. If you require a tyre for all round use look for something with puncture protection, an average TPI(Threads Per Inch) and average weight. If you require a fast tyre and speed is the only thing that matters look for a low weight folding tyre with high TPI. If durability is your priority and speed is not so important look towards the puncture resistant tyres and consider going for a wider tyre, these will be less prone to punctures and offer a bit more comfort. For wet road conditions a triple compound or winter tyre is a good choice, these use a softer compound on the cornering surface to maximise grip.
About the Continental brand
More than 100 years experience in the development and production of bicycle tyres has made Continental a unique company within the industry. Continental is the only German bicycle tyre manufacturer to produce its tyres in Germany. Knowing this serves as a mighty incentive to our engineers and everyone else involved in the manufacturing process to constantly strive for further innovations. In our technology and development center in Korbach, we are constantly developing new revolutionary technologies such as the unbeatable Black Chili Compound and the ultimate Vectran™ Breaker anti-puncture technology, both used at the top end of race sport. These technologies demand sophisticated processes to ensure our legendary end-product quality, and these innovations as well as the new “ProTection” and ”RaceSport” technology for MTB tyres, can only be manufactured in our factory in Germany – “Handmade in Germany”. In order to offer the best tyre for any application, we rely equally on dialogue with our professional racers, hobby cyclists and everyday bike riders. This results not only in high-end products for top sports applications such as the new Podium TT or the revolutionary downhill tyre “Der Kaiser”, but also tyres for everyday use like the new innovative combination EcoContact/EcoContact Plus as a companion to the latest e-bike trend. As a global player, Continental also maintains high-tech production facilities outside of Germany, where Continental tyres are produced for you with an equal degree of care and dedication. One thing all Continental bicycle tyres have in common is that they are developed in the technology center in Korbach, Germany, where they also undergo strict inspection. Our heart and soul is behind the phrase “Handmade in Germany”, with all of its products and technologies.

Product Q & A
Ask your questions and share your answers.
Continental says in their manual to the tyre that there are markings on the tyre that show how much wear is present. Little holes that disappear when there is too much wear.
I think they should easily cover 2000 - 3000 miles.
Try the tyres at submax pressure 7,5 bar front and 8,0 bar rear and they're good to go.
I´m new into cycling and looking for a tyre with the highest grip performance. "Continental Grand Prix 4000S II" seem to be one of the best one in terms of grip/traction based on my search but just before I placed my order I read about different opinions too
I was wondering if you know any other tyre that might have better grip performance than this? My bike allows Max 25mm width of tyre.
Your 23 mm and 25 mm will both give you superb traction on most roads. Note, however, this is NOT an off-road MTB tyre.
When it comes to gravel and low-traction situations, these are as good as any. In the wet these are among the best.
Size wise, 25 mm will give you slightly more comfort, but then slightly lower pressure will give you much the same on a 23 mm.
If you want to save weight the 23 mm is your tyre, and Wiggle's price and service is 1st Class.
Stay save and enjoy.
how fast you're going in the corners,
pressure in the front tyre (I recommend 7,5 bar or lower)
I have many potholes and grit on my commuting route, but 4000S II 25 mm width are one of the best allround tyre you will come across.
