Large volume casing combined with low profile tread pattern and Black Chilli compound are just what ensures a head start on any fast paced technical worldcup racing tracks and marathon pists.
Supersonic - The aim of the Supersonic range is to provide customers with the choice of purchasing the lightest products available on the market. Continental have made tyres and tubes in this range which are refined to the minimum weight tolerances without compromising safety, to give the racing cyclist a genuine advantage.
Every Supersonic product is uncompromisingly optimised as far as weight and rolling resistance are concerned. All components of the Supersonic tyre and tube are individually reduced in volume and weight to what is absolutely necessary and technically feasible. This affects for example, the thickness of the tyre casing, material distribution of tread rubber, the thickness of the tread compound and the thickness of the tube walls. Of course, only the highest quality materials are used: highly refined polyamide for the carcass and all Supersonic tyres now feature our Black Chili compound technology.
Radically optimising a tyre in terms of weight and rolling resistance means cutting back on other tyre properties. In terms of mileage and puncture resistance, the Supersonic tyres do not measure up to the proven quality of their corresponding all-round tyres.
Continental's engineers and chemists have turned out superlative technology here, ensuring Supersonic products a top position in racing and tuning. Hobby athletes can also benefit from our innovative capabilities, however, through Continental's various well-balanced alternatives that satisfy virtually the whole range of racing tyre demands.
Learn more about Black Chili Compound
These tyres are for mountain bikes and intended primarily for off road use, the knobbly patterns provide grip when steering and traction when applying power to the pedals. There is usually a tyre to suit the conditions in which you are riding in so the right choice is important. On dry days a narrow tyre with a smoother central tread can be used, but on a wet day a wider tyre with a deeper knobbly tread pattern is essential or you could be the one in contact with the mud.
More than 100 years experience in the development and production of bicycle tyres has made Continental a unique company within the industry. Continental is the only German bicycle tyre manufacturer to produce its tyres in Germany. Knowing this serves as a mighty incentive to our engineers and everyone else involved in the manufacturing process to constantly strive for further innovations. In our technology and development center in Korbach, we are constantly developing new revolutionary technologies such as the unbeatable Black Chili Compound and the ultimate Vectran™ Breaker anti-puncture technology, both used at the top end of race sport. These technologies demand sophisticated processes to ensure our legendary end-product quality, and these innovations as well as the new “ProTection” and ”RaceSport” technology for MTB tyres, can only be manufactured in our factory in Germany – “Handmade in Germany”. In order to offer the best tyre for any application, we rely equally on dialogue with our professional racers, hobby cyclists and everyday bike riders. This results not only in high-end products for top sports applications such as the new Podium TT or the revolutionary downhill tyre “Der Kaiser”, but also tyres for everyday use like the new innovative combination EcoContact/EcoContact Plus as a companion to the latest e-bike trend. As a global player, Continental also maintains high-tech production facilities outside of Germany, where Continental tyres are produced for you with an equal degree of care and dedication. One thing all Continental bicycle tyres have in common is that they are developed in the technology center in Korbach, Germany, where they also undergo strict inspection. Our heart and soul is behind the phrase “Handmade in Germany”, with all of its products and technologies.
