The fast fender is designed to catch the spray and muck from the front wheel whilst riding at speed. The Fast Fender has been inspired from the motocross scene and unlike the previous desgins, which fits under the fork crown, the Fast Fender directly mounts to the handlebar.

You can also fit a race number plate for racing.

1991:THE CRUD CATCHER
Pre-CRUD riders were in the habit of cutting up plastic bottles and zip-tying them to the downtube.
I wanted something that looked a little more stylish on my brand new Diamondback. So I looked in the yellow pages and found a “tool designer”.
I didn't know what it meant, or what he did, but I went along to see him anyway, and he hooked me up and designed the tool for the first crud catcher. I don't remember his name, but I’d like to meet him again and thank him for setting me on the path.

The Fast Fender was designed in conjunction with downhill legend Steve Peat. It mounts to the bars rather than into the steerer tube, will fit any bike and is made from what can only be described as near-indestructible plastic.

The idea is to catch mud and spray as it gets fired off your front tyre. At speed, you catch up with this spray and it ends up splattering your face and goggles, affecting your vision.

It does a damn good job too. When riding with people who didn't have them fitted, their goggles were plastered with mud by the bottom of a run, and ours weren't.

In conclusion...

It works brilliantly, is only £9.99 and has Steve Peat kudos. You can't go wrong...

Crud Fast Fender I've just made my bike a all-weather, 24 hour riding machine for winter (lights and mudguards) so I have no excuse not to get out on it over the next few dark, wet months. My new Crud Fast Fender works really well at eliminating pretty much all front end spray which is a real benefit if you ride on and off road in farming territory. It was easy enough to fit, and came the next day with Wiggle's amazing delivery speed. Be careful if you want a front mudguard (as I thought it was traditionally called) when ordering a Crud product, as you might get the Crud Front Mudguard (as I did when ordering from a shop, which attaches to the down tube). It's not the prettiest thing to stick on your bike, but as an ex motocrosser I like it a lot. In summary, this is a great product that works exceptionally well for very little cost, and will improve your riding enjoyment (unless you like getting a face full of mud of course). 12 November 2009

No more muddly face !! Fitted this to my 29'er which has rigid forks and once you get the angle right it stops the water flicking up into your face off the front wheel - well worth it. 19 January 2012

The best mud guard for ROAD BIKES After an unsuccessful time with Road Racer mudguards (difficult to set up then they rub ALL the time) I decided to go to the dark side and get the lightest mudguards out there that were no where near my wheels so had no chance of rubbing! The Crud Fast Fender sits perfectly on my Aero bars on my Spec Tarmac and yes I / the bike does look lame but show me a bike that does look good with mudguards! I'm also considering taking a junior hacksaw and file to the Fast Fender to shave a little more weight Over all a great mudguard that I could always fit to my MTB too! For the record I bought a Zefal Swan Road Rear Mudguard for the rear which works great too 12 October 2011

Perfect Don't be put off if you think it looks a bit naf off the bike. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's pretty (it's a piece of plastic!) but this is one functional add-on that actually adds to the lines of your bike. Fits easy, keeps all the cables/hoses in place at the front end, looks good and works brilliantly. On dry days it reduced the amount of grit/gravel you have to eat. On wet muddy rides it's like having your butler running in front of you sweeping the garbage away (I guess!). Get one. 15 April 2011
