About the Crud brand
1991:THE CRUD CATCHER
Pre-CRUD riders were in the habit of cutting up plastic bottles and zip-tying them to the downtube.
I wanted something that looked a little more stylish on my brand new Diamondback. So I looked in the yellow pages and found a “tool designer”.
I didn't know what it meant, or what he did, but I went along to see him anyway, and he hooked me up and designed the tool for the first crud catcher. I don't remember his name, but I’d like to meet him again and thank him for setting me on the path.

Magazine reviews for Crud Race Guard Rear Mudguard
Review from Bikeradar
Simple products are often the best - and Crud Catchers are a perfect example of that. For 2009, 'son of Crud' Jamie Tomkins has vastly improved on what was already an effective design.
The new Crud Catcher front mudguard (£8.99) is wider than before, longer and features a deformable rubber nose to allow for fork contact. It also has a rubber frame pad which aids positioning on down tubes with odd bosses.
The Crud Guard rear mudguard (£15.99) has a new seamless appearance thanks to hours of redesigning. A single aluminium bolt secures it to the seatpost and the mounting arm neatly clips into place. It's so simple, and looks so neat that it makes everything else look a tad Heath Robinson.
In conclusion...
A blindingly simple bit of kit - essential for true trail hackers
Rating: 9/10
Review from What MTB
An effective rear mudguard is much harder to make than a good front one, given all the intricacies of geometry and suspension action to consider.
As with their classic Crud Catcher down tube guard and new Fast Fender, Crud again lead the way with the RaceGuard Rear, and the new version is the best looking ever.
It's also the best performing and easiest rear guard to fit and adjust that we've ever used. Simply snap the seat post bracket into position, select the appropriate thickness rubber shim for the clamp, tweak the angle and do up the single Allen bolt.
The Crud RaceGuard Rear won't budge. It offers almost complete protection from rear wheel spray and looks good on both budget hardtails or blingtastic full-suss rigs.
In conclusion...
Our overall favourite when it comes to rear mountain bike mudguards
Rating: 9/10
