This CycleOps Magneto Progressive Resistance Trainer is no longer available although you may find similar or newer versions below:
When riding outside isn't an option, the Magneto progressive resistance trainer is. Instead of succumbing to the elements, simply bring your bike inside for a worry-free ride and spend your time training, not cleaning road grime off your frame.
|Noise Level:||Ultra Quiet|
|Trainer Type:||Turbo Trainer|
As the world's first magnetic trainer with progressive resistance, the Magneto increases resistance as you increase pedal speed, so your effort and speed follow each other on a natural curve. There are no manual adjustments needed, simply shift gears as you would when riding outside.
With a quick load cam lever, you simply adjust the resistance unit once and then lock it into place each time you put your bike on the trainer. This way there are no guessing games in setting resistance from ride to ride. Combine this with a smooth, quiet ride, locking bolt ring and heavy-duty steel construction, and you're ready to sprint, spin and climb with confidence. No wobbles. No hassles. No reason not to ride.
Using PowerTuned technology and the PowerTap powermeter Cycleops can graph the amount of power it would take for an average rider to maintain a specific speed while on the bike trainer. Take a look at the resistance curve below. The graph depicts speed horizontally on the x-axis versus power vertically on the y-axis:

Cycleops are world famous for producing high quality cycle trainers. However, the company origins weren’t in cycling, believe it or not they started with producing curtain rods! The story goes that the Graber brothers sold their window products company and needed something to do. They experimented in their garage and came up with a best-selling bike rack. In 1989, Chris and Sara Fortune purchased the company when it was selling 80,000 bike racks a year. In 1990, a high-end brand of bike rack was launched, branded as “Saris.” Today Saris is a leading supplier to the bicycle industry in over 30 countries. The company expanded in 1999 by acquiring the Cycleops brand of bike trainer. As usual they set out to improve on the design and by 2001 they created a new trainer frame and in 2002 they launched the world’s first progressive resistance Cycleops magnetic trainer. It was in 2001 that they heard about a hub that could measure power output and they jumped at the chance to bring this product to cyclists. They bought the company that invented Powertap and started a new round of Cycleops cycling innovations.
