Bargain! Fantastic value and do the job perfectly. I used these in conjunction with the TorTec Ultralite Rear Rack and my Trek 1.2 Triple. Used over 3 days on a trip from Birmingham to Worthing. The trip was a total of 160 miles and not once did these fall off! Size wise you could easily fit a weeks worth in them. I had a pair of shoes, 4 t-shirts, jeans, belt, loads of gels, carb bars and electrolyte drink sachets in mine. 2 outer zipped pockets which afre ideal for the camera and wallet. The panniers basically clip onto the rack and are very sturdy. As long as you make sure you have the straps tied down you will have no problems. For the price these are an absolute steal. Unable to test the waterproof- ness out as fortunately on my trip it did not rain once! 30 June 2010

Superb I use these panniers for my daily coomute as an alternative to my rucksack. Despite other reports to the contrary I have found them to be waterproof. They are easy to fix and take off the bike and are very secure. I can either use one or both depending on my needs. They also look good. I have them fitted to a lifeline alloy rack on my Claud Butler Levante. Highly recomended. 28 June 2010

travelling Good size for what you need for a trip for a few days. Not fully waterproof. Can't use the pocket that's on top if fully packet, although not an issue. More cons than pros but I was very satisfied as They fulfilled what I expected of them. 20 June 2010

Very good, cheap pannier bag A very good panier bag which attaches easily and securely PROVIDED that you have the correct rack. You need a rack that will accept a hook at the bottom that is pulling upward on elastic and securing the bag to the rack. This means you need a horizontal bar at the bottom, such as that found on the Topeak Super Tourist DX Rear Rack, or similar. My TorTec Ultralite Rear Rack did not have such a bar or suitable fixing but I was able to swap racks with my wife, solving the problem. If you do not have such a rack then the mounting relies purely on gravity to hold the bag in place. Other than the mounting problem this is a very well designed bag with a good pocket on the front, well put together and very good value. 15 June 2010

Construction Material

The picture, poor though it is, seems to suggest these are made of a thin nylon material but Deuter are a quality manufacturer so I would be surprised if that were the case. Can anyone say what material they are made of or give an indication of the quality.

The pannier is of tough cordura-like nylon and the flat backing (with the clips, facing the wheel) is rubbery plastic. Not had them for long, but seems tough.

They use a hook attachment which slots over most racks, they are a soft bag though and may not be the best choice for carrying a laptop. Bags such as the http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Altura_Urban_Dryline_17_Inch_Briefcase_Pannier/5360029305/ would be a better choice as they are designed to keep a laptop in place and have additional padding to help protect it.

No shoulder strap; only carry handles. They can be attached to each other via a thin strap though - you could put this over your shoulder (with one pannier against your chest and another against your back), but this would be uncomfortable if carrying any significant weight int he bags.

Is there a strap for carrying off the bike?

I can't work out from the pictures whether there is or not. Or at least some eyelets to attach one to? Or just a case of lugging them round by the grab handle on the top.

There is a carrying strap on the innerside of the bags, and it is not difficult to carry both the bags by holding both the straps together.

There isn't a strap, although you can put the panniers over your shoulder using the joining strap, one pannier over your front and one over the back.
I'm investigating using a holder type strap to attach to the hooks that clip to the rack, as I think that may work.
