I can't tell you with any kind of scientific figures, but I do own the jacket. Imagine it like a sheet of plastic - it's very waterproof, but not very breathable.

I apologise but the manufacturer has not issued us with this information but we can confirm that the water resistance level is over 1000mm as it is classed as a waterproof product. I apologise I cannot be of more help in this case.

Hi
I'm looking through the descriptions of the Hi Viz jacket versus the Signal and am struggling to discern what the difference is between the two of them. They are both available in Hi Viz, both are 2.5 layer mid weight, both designed to accommodate a mid layer, both have same (or similar) features and both seem to be for similar intended use (cold/wet).
Is it basically just a mesh lines version of the Signal (and therefore a replacement for the older Amberley jacket) or is there something I've missed?
Cheers

Answer:
You are right. Feature set is very similar. The key difference is this product has a lot more reflective detailing on it. The reflective prints are larger and there are 4 large reflective fabric surfaces in key positions.
The fitting of this new HiViz jacket is also slightly more cycle focused. The dhb Signal is boxy to accommodate 'non cycle specific' layers underneath (e.g. a casual jumper and shirt, not a sports fit microfleece or roubaix jersey!). The Hi Viz waterproof Cycle Jacket will work best worn over sports fit mid layers. If you need more space to accommodate casual/work wear, consider going a size up.

Other waterproof jackets have the "tent" effect when worn with a rucksack - rain seeps through where rucksack straps are in contact, mainly on shoulders.
Answers
Answer:
My experience is yes, it remains waterproof when using a rucksack. This is because this is a a waterproof jacket which does not have any breathable qualities, as such the fabric is designed not to allow moisture transfer.
Breathable fabrics will allow water to seep through because breathable fabric works by reacting to humidity differences between the outside atmosphire and in the atmosphere inside the jacket. If you block breathable fabric by wearing a rucksack it will simply become saturated and liable to allow water in or sweat will remain trapped.

Answer:
The water resistance of the jacket is not compromised by the use of a rucksack, due to a combination of good fit, taped seams and waterproof material.

I'm comparing this jacket to the Altura Night Vision which says 2 layer. With this dhB jacket with 2.5 layer, does it means this is much thicker than the Altura one?

Answers
Answer:
2.5 Layer:
Layer 1 is the Polyester fabric layer. This fabric is the same weight as the dhb Minima S, the dhb Signal and the EQ2.5. (Weight will be similar to Altura night vision.)
Layer 2 is the waterproof breathable membrane - this is permanently laminated to the fabric at the fabric mill. This material is a variant of polyurethane (PU)
Layer 0.5 is very thin printed layer which sits on top of the PU. This layer adds some protection to the top surface layer of the membrane. It also adds decoration. The weight of this layer is negligible.
We would describe this as medium weight jacket which can be scrunched down and stuffed into a rucksack. The scrunched size could be approx 15cm diameter ball.

Answer:
The jacket is not the same as EQ2.5. EQ2.5 uses a mesh lining to add more warmth.
This jacket is a shell only jacket - more similar to the dhb Minima in terms of fabric and construction (but with more features) or comparable to the dhb Signal but with more reflective.
The jacket is suited to commuting in low light levels in real rain (not just light showers). This jacket scrunches down into a small ish volume. The cut allows space for warm mid layers underneath.

I have this jacket. It is great. How would you recommend washing this to keep its breathability. With other breathable jackets I have been recommended to avoid normal washing powder. I also want to avoid it fading and losing its fantastically neon colour as I have seen other brands do after washing. Any tips?

I can confirm that to keep the breath-ability and the water resistance we suggest using Grangers 30 Degree Cleaner And Proofer 300ml when washing these types of jackets. This will clean it without taking any of the properties from the jacket. I hope this helps.

Answer:
yes it has two front pockets and a larger rear one on the lower back. As others have mentioned it is a snug fitting jacket so the font pockets are quite tight - just enough space for some keys and phone. If you want to carry a lot i would go up a size. The back pocket has a small interior pouch for holding a small phone / keys.

According to the sizing chart, I;d need a XL for a 46 chest. Does this give plenty room for wearing base layers/jerseys, or is it a closer fit only suitable for tighter fitting layers

Answer:
Can be used as a windstopper layer, but being a waterproof jacket you are better of buying a thermal windproof jacket as any sweat gets trapped on the inside of the jacket and over prolonged periods will soak into your base layers.

This jacket will not have adequate windproofing on it's own, but should be effective at keeping you dry. When combined with suitable layers this could be suitable for your requirements.
