Easton's EA50 SL wheel set establishes a new precedent for exceptional value. Like all Easton wheels, the EA50 SL is hand-built - something unheard of at this price point. This is a perfect training wheel for racers or enthusiasts alike thanks to the ride quality and stiffness of the wheel set, but with double-butted spokes the EA50 SL is equally comfortable as a durable racing wheel set.
Easton wheels are meticulously tuned by skilled craftsmen to achieve uniform spoke tension. This simple procedure vastly strengthens the wheel and greatly reduces spoke failure. Further, it allows us to sufficiently tension the spokes so that the wheel has the compound attributes of light weight, stiffness, and durability. The spokes are only one aspect of the wheel that sets us apart. Every aspect of the wheel, from bearings to nipples, has been refined and improved.
Wheel building is as much art as it is science. High, uniform spoke tension is necessary to build strong wheels that stay true. Nothing does this better than experienced human hands. It's a painstaking process. Easton's systematic approach to precision tensioning and truing sets the standard in the industry.

Like all other Easton wheels, these are hand-built and it shows; the spoke tension was good when we got them and it didn't alter a bit.
The V-section rims are 31mm deep, but despite that extra material the overall weight is still low here (753g front, 931g rear), resulting in super-quick acceleration.
The hubs come with sealed cartridge bearings that are well shielded from the weather, while the high flanges add stiffness.
You get 20 Sapim double-butted spokes up front and 24 at the rear; the front ones and rear non-driveside ones are radially raced, the driveside ones at the back are threaded two-cross.
We really gave these wheels a thrashing on the nastiest road surfaces we know, but they were as impressively round and true when we'd ï¬nished testing them as when we started - a testament to Easton's high build standards and quality control.
With wear-indicator grooves in the rims and good durability, they're great all-round road wheels.
