About Road Race Tyres

These tyres are for racing style bikes that use clincher/hooked rims, these are the most common fitment and hook onto the rim and require an inner tube. There is a wide choice of tyres within this category and the right choice is important. Lighter tyres will accelerate quickly, but will be more prone to punctures so getting a balance is extremely important. If you require a tyre for all round use look for something with puncture protection, an average TPI(Threads Per Inch) and average weight. If you require a fast tyre and speed is the only thing that matters look for a low weight folding tyre with high TPI. If durability is your priority and speed is not so important look towards the puncture resistant tyres and consider going for a wider tyre, these will be less prone to punctures and offer a bit more comfort. For wet road conditions a triple compound or winter tyre is a good choice, these use a softer compound on the cornering surface to maximise grip.

Great Tyres Solid performers that roll well. These replaced a set of marathons and the difference in rolling resistance is huge. No punctures thus far and I am guessing non coming any time soon. Solid winter tyres for those that prefer to ride rather than change inner tubes. 15 October 2012

Great puncture protection, but not very durable I've been using Durano Plus tires for a few years now. In general I've been very satisfied, but I wonder if Schwalbe has made changes to the compound over the years. My last Durano Plus rear tire lasted 2000km, and this one only 1500km. I would expect more from a high-mileage trainer (say, around 2500km). The wired version also felt a bit less grippy than the folding tire, but that could just be me. On the upside, it's very hard to get a puncture in these tires, so I feel very safe that I won't have to change a flat when I ride these tires. They'll remain on my list of trusted tires, but I might try other brands for my next purchase. 03 September 2012

Are you looking for anti-flat tire? I've been used Durano Plus for years. it's cheaper than folding type but, same quality. however, it's little bit heavy beacuse it's wire type. but also you can pass it over. You won't be disappointed. 28 August 2012

Gatorskin replacment for commuter tyre Used to use Gators and Gator hardshells. Until I moved to Manchester with its glass littered cycle paths. Decided to take up suggestions on Bikeradatrs London commuters for an alternative. They almost all use Durano plus. Heavier but feels like I can roll over owt. Not to bad to put on either. And the London logo is nice, but the best thing is these wired ones are cheaper than a standard Gator and obviously cheaper than the other durano plus option of a non-London, folding tyre. We'll seen how they last over time. 10 July 2012
