Top Features of the SRAM Red Exogram BB30 Compact Chainset
Innovation often comes from places you‘d least expect. In order to make a lighter crankset, SRAM made it bigger. To add stiffness, they used less material.
- Exogram technology uses a large, hollow cross section all the way to the spider, minimizing weight while maximizing stiffness. Our stiffest crank ever
- Hidden bolt pattern leverages the characteristics of carbon fibre while presenting a sleek appearance
- Stiffer X Glide R chainrings feature thicker construction, advanced shift timing pins and ramps, which are optimized for shifting with the YAW Front Derailleur
- Stunning two-tone finish
- Arm Material: Carbon
- Chainring Material: Machined alloy rings
- Weight: 557g (BB30 172.5mm/BB not included)
- Other: Compatible only with SRAM Yaw Front Derailleur
- Bottom Bracket Type: BB30
The new SRAM RED Exogram Crankset is completely hollow all the way to the spider. Its hidden bolt pattern makes better use of carbon fibre to further improve stiffness and shed weight. The stunning X Glide R chainrings are optimised for use with the YAW Technology in the front derailleur, delivering seamless, flawless performance.
Exogram Features: The new hollow carbon construction starts in the crank arm and extends into the cranks’ spider. It maximizes the stiffness to weight ratio.
X-GlideR Chainrings: The chainrings are designed for an optimised shifting performance with the Yaw front derailleur. The stiffer rings (5mm 7075-T6 aluminum CNC-machined) feature upshift rivets with an advanced design adopted from SRAM XX. CNC machining allows for precision control of each tooth shape, ramp, and nearly every shifting feature of the chainring. Chainrings, chain, and front derailleur are designed as a single integrated system for optimised performance.
Your chainset must fit onto your bottom bracket! There are currently four chainset/bottom bracket interfaces that you're likely to come across. If your bottom bracket is made by Shimano and it has splines, then you need an Octalink chainset. If your b/b is NOT made by Shimano and it has splines, it's almost certainly ISIS. There are a very few non-Shimano chainsets with Shimano Octalink interfaces so, to be sure, count the splines - ISIS has 9, Octalink has (surprise, surprise) 8. No matter which brand of b/b you have, if it has a square interface, it will require a traditional square taper chainset. If you have one of the new Hollowtech II systems, you will need to choose the exact chainset that matches your bottom bracket. Most MTB chainsets are now 9-speed compatible but these will work with an 8-speed system.
About the SRAM brand
Product manuals and service guides for all SRAM, Rockshox, Avid and Truvativ products can be found at sram.com or videos can be found on YouTube. SRAM Corporation was founded in Chicago, IL (USA) in 1987 by six employees with one component, Gripshift Twist Shifters. Today, SRAM’s commitment and growth can be measured by its 1,500 employees, its 150+ cycling products, and it’s 12 facilities worldwide. SRAM has found tremendous growth through innovative products, unparallel customer service, strong sales, and complimentary acquisitions. SRAM acquisitions include Sachs Bicycle Components, purchased in 1997, a leading manufacturer of chains, cassettes and hubs. In 2002 SRAM purchased RockShox, the world’s mountain bike suspension specialist. 2004 brought the purchase of both Avid brakes and Truvativ cranks and components. The addition of these companies has allowed SRAM to grow into the world’s second largest component supplier to the cycling industry. SRAM's core philosophy is to make cycling better. Their commitment is expressed in their local, national and international team and event sponsorship.
