Waterproof cycle jackets can improve your comfort levels on the bike considerably when the weather turns nasty. Factors such as wind resistance and high breathability are important if you will be riding at a high pace over a fair distance, along with wearing a good quality base or mid layer to help with wicking moisture away from your skin. Waterproof cycle jackets with hi tech fabrics such as GoreTex and eVent are well worth paying a little extra for, if you require high levels of breathability, this will improve protection, dryness and comfort on longer rides in poor conditions.
Endura produce many fine cycling garments for both road and mountain bike use. These range from bibshorts to baggy shorts and short sleeve cycling jerseys to downhill MTB jerseys also including gloves and overshoes. Endura have also released a range of garments aimed at the higher end road market. This range is known as Equipe and designed specifically for road use with the garments having a more aero/atheletic look.

The Scottish toughies take softshell to a whole new level (and price). We could just as easily have featured this jacket in next months stormproof test, as it's the first fully waterproof softshell we've used. The Entrant fabric is quiet and super-stretchy, with fleece backing for excellent comfort while it wicks away sweat. Accurate core temperature control is helped by massive side and auxiliary under-arm vents. External welded seams and a very close fit keep even the worst of the weather out, and the zipped sleeves make it easy to snug it over glove cuffs. A useful chest pod pocket, massive rear pocket and rubber rear LED light 'bar' add some practicality, confirming its instant classic status - if you can affordf it that is.
Costly, but a whole new world of low sweat, high comfort waterproofing
A waterproof softshell packed with features, a really good cut and a great fit means the Stealth scores highly. In a similar fashion to the Rapha Classic Softshell, this jacket from Endura has all those little features that make it stand out from the crowd. For starters there is the grommet on the inside from the front pocket to allow headphone wires through, and then there's the loop on the back of the jacket designed for clipping lights onto. The pit zips are split in two sections, so that they open under your tricaps and the side of your torse to facilitate use when you're wearing a backpack. It all adds up to make a waterproof, highly breathable softshell that quite deservedly scores full marks at this price.
Everything about the Stealth is good
Entrant fabric offers all the benefits of a soft shell, such as breathability and warmth, with the total waterproofing of an outer shell.
Contrasting, black-dotted strips on teh face of the fabric are taped seams - usually hiden inside a standard shell waterproof. A side-entry, map-sized rear pocket is complimented by the single chest pocket, with both fully sealed from the elements. it's not super-light, but no mid-layer is needed, and it will significantly reduce bulk.
The construction will mean it's an Autmn/Winter garment, but if you want to keep riding whatever the weather, this is good value and worth a look.
Zipping yourself into the snug fit of the Stealth jacket will make you feel like some kind of superhero, and it becomes obvious just how much attention has been paid to fit and performance when you do. The cuffs zip shut so you can get them over your gloves and seal yourself off from the elements, the cut is close and clearly performance-oriented, and the waterproof softsheel material is extremely comfortable and stretchy. The main zip and pocket zip are both waterproof, which goes hand-in-hand with the externally sealed seams.
Underarm zipped vents, and iPod pocket and a rear pocket finish the jacket off nicely, and there is plenty of reflective material all over. The fleecy lining is warm and comfortable, although it doesn't breathe quite as well as a regular softshell - but the trade-off is that this jacket is 100% waterproof. I really like it and it's a new winter essential in my biking wardrobe.
