e.thirteen components is proud to release the XCX, a chain retention system literally years in the making. Like all e.thirteen products, the XCX has been proven at the highest levels of competition right out of the gate.
Having won the Men's Elite Silver medal in the 2009 UCI World Championship Cross Country race the XCX is the first chain retention system in the world to podium at an international World Cup XC event.
The brainchild of World Cup mechanic and now Worldwide Sales Director Jonas Mikolayunas, the XCX has been used by friends and employees of e.thirteen since 2004. Racing and rider feedback is of top importance to e*thirteen, and in 2005, e.thirteen introduced the XCX to top World Cup CX and XC riders. The recent emergence of the wide-range ten speed cassette has allowed XC races and riders to drop weight by using only a middle ring.
The XCX is an XC chain device designed to be used on a single front chain ring and with either a 9 or 10 speed cassette at the rear. It's lightweight design means you can drop your chainrings down to one and take off your front mech and front shifter further saving weight.
Chain devices fit in various places around a mountain bikes transmission and help to eliminate chain suck and chain slap when riding over rough terrain or landing from big drops. There are a number of fitments, some frames have ISCG mounts which are lugs on the drive-side of the bottom bracket shell and allow direct fitment to the frame, other chain devices fit in between the bottom bracket and frame and require a specific bottom bracket with a larger drive-side cup, and finally there is the type that clamp around the seat tube in place of the front mech. Also within this section you can find single speed chain tensioners which fit in place of the rear mech and take up any chain slack. There is also a selection of wheel tugs which stop you pulling your wheel over in horizontal dropouts.
e.thirteen components are a small, rider-owned and operated company which was founded in 2001 by Dave Weagle. Since it inception e.thirteen have always pushed peoples ideas in terms of innovation, function and design and have become a market leader in chain retention systems the world over. e.thirteen have strong roots in competition and they support numerous athletes and events the world over from grassroots racing right up to top flight World Cup competition and World Champions, in fact e.thirteen chain guides and rings have collected more gold medals at World Cup and World Championship competition level in recent years than any other chain retention system, making them the choice for all riders at all levels.
