The Enduro MaXX uses three LEDs in triangular formation, with the battery now permanently enclosed in the aluminium casing. This may seem odd, reducing serviceability, but it rids the Enduro MaXX of its biggest bugbear: intermittent battery connection. Internally, efficiency has been improved, which not only improves brightness but also extends battery life. Previous lights used to start flashing when on reserve power but now, when in the 'run-time death throes', flagged-up by a red-flashing battery indicator, the light will gradually dim, instead of leaving you in total darkness. But our favourite improvement is the clamp. Rather than a fixed, Allen-key clamp, Exposure took inspiration from the pro-level tripod clamp. A two-piece forged clamp has a slotted, tapering interface into which the light slides. Security comes from a spring-loaded adjustable pin that's so simple to use (even single handed) it's a wonder no-one's thought of this before: genius.
In conclusion...
We have always thought Exposure lights were onto something with C.L.D. - but the details weren't quite right. Now with the MaXX series, output is great, with easily enough light available to rip up trails at almost daylight speeds, and our two biggest reservations have been well and truly banished. An excellent clamp and perfected power connections dismiss those issues out of hand. Add to this the option of piggy back batteries for improving run times by one, two or three hours, and there's very little we can see that could be improved upon. Top it all off with a reduced price over last years' top model, and there's nothing to do but give it full marks.
