Stand out from the crowd. I had been looking for an upgrade bike after selling my Battaglin Start that I purchased from Wiggle last year. Many friends are riding carbon and I was quite taken by the Felt F5. I stumbled across the F4130 Athena by accident, there were no real in depth reviews but I like Campagnola groupsets (I think they are better than the equivalent shimano kit) and in my murky cycling past I enjoyed riding a steel framed bike when everyone was on aluminium. The sale price made it a no-brainer for me, under £1k is unbelievable, I even emailed after ordering to make sure the price was right and I was going to get it. It arrived today. After a shake down quickie I can say it's a lovely bike and I cannot wait to get out and ride it in anger. The wheels are not matched in standard to the rest of the components, but at this price I can afford to upgrade them after winter. The stock seat isn't particularly good so I've put my fizic tri2 saddle on it, attached some simple alloy bottle cages, added shiny 105 pedals and it looks very cool and retro. Huge thank you to the Wiggle Team for another safe and easy buying experience. There are a good many retailers who could learn a valuable lesson from Wiggles customere service. Now if you could order good weather when you bought your new bike that would be perfect..... 08 November 2012

Campag Athena on a sub £1k bike - you can't lose I bought this recently as I wanted a traditional looking steel road bike for a sensible price. The white frame is a stunner and is columbus cro-mo so you can be pretty sure of the quality. The carbon forks definitely help with a forgiving ride. When you add a full Campag Athena groupset (worth around £700 on its own) the package is pretty amazing. Obviously at these prices there are a few weaker areas. The wheels are nice plain chrome but are not exactly light or high-end and the hubs look and sound a bit cheap. The saddle is a bit of a clunker, but i quickly replaced it with a trusted San Marco and the painted 'quill' stem isn't my cup of tea. Overall it is a reasonably fast, reasonably comfortable, very classy, reasonably light and amazingly priced #when i bought it# bike. It probably won't appeal to anyone who compares bikes by fashion, weight and spec, but far more knowledgeable bikey friends and strangers alike have commented on its great looks and style. 06 November 2012
