Fibre Flare™ Side Lights are specifically intended to be used in combination with regulatory coloured bike lights (White front light and Red Tail light) to boost your overall side visibility.
How it Works?:
Fibre Flare™ is a portable self contained safety device having a flexible solid core side emitting fibre optic element interposed between two electronic housing ends; inside each of the housing ends is a single high intensity LED. When the LED’s illuminate they emit a high intensity uni-directional light beam that is directed into each end of the fibre optic core; the fibre optic then distributes the LED light input and illuminates along its entire length to emit a high intensity omni-directional light output visible from almost any direction at distances over 300 meters (constant or strobe).
Fibre Flare™ has integral fabric clips at either end, these can be used to fasten it to jerseys, jackets, bags etc.. As well as fastening using the fabric clips, Fibre Flare™ comes with two silicone ladder slings that slide over the fabric clip and allow Fibre Flare™ to be securely fastened to the bike frame.
About Rear Lights
Almost all bicycle rear lights use LEDs instead of filament bulbs as they are more reliable and use much less battery power, whilst also offering much higher levels of brightness. Used in flashing mode, they are very good at attracting attention from other road users. It's advisable to use at least two rear bike lights, a common configuration is one flashing and one in constant, this is highly advisable just in case one stops or becomes obscured.

LED bike lights have been around for almost 10 years now and have changed very little.. Some say when you find a good thing stick to it.. we say.. why not make it better..? Yep bike lights light up; but what's the difference? Bike lights aren't all created equal.. Regular bike lights light up brightly in a one primary direction (uni-directional).. and generally work well for traffic approaching from behind you.. but what about traffic coming from the side and other angles? Fibre Flare™ uses high intensity LED's to illuminate a flexible fibre optic core that lights up all around in every direction (Omni-Directional).. it can be seen at distances over 300 meters .. and yes you can make it flash too.. and like most LED lights it lasts ages and uses regular (or rechargeable) AAA batteries.

Using an AAA battery enclosed in a rubber housing at either end, with a length of 'fibre optic' rod in between, makes for a highly visible strip of red light.
The housings at each end have pen-style clips on them, so you can attach them to clothing, bags and so on. They also come with handy rubber straps that allow you to mount them in various different places on your bike (the back of the seatpost or seatstays, for example) - making them a versatile rear light that's easy to fit and remove in seconds.
The run time in flashing mode was a little less than the claimed 70+ hours; we found they lasted 65 hours, at which point they were so dull there was no point using them.
We had no problems with water ingress and they're definitely shockproof. Having a pair of them, set off at different times to enable them to flash out of sync, gave a great deal of visibility from all angles.
In conclusion...
Excellent addition to any legal lighting setup
