About Performance Saddles
Performance saddles are narrower than the models designed for shorter ride comfort. They're intended for riders who have a committed riding style with weight on hands and feet so they're narrower and lighter. High tech padding materials and flexible body designs keep your pressure points comfortable and lightweight chassis components keep the weight down. Most have some kind of ergonomic design to reduce pressure on nerves and allow unrestriced blood flow to your sensitive areas. Womens models have a wider design to suit their naturally wider pelvis. Saddle widths vary across the ranges from narrow (upto 130mm), medium (upto 138mm) to wide (upto 146mm). Narrower saddles are the popular choice for longer distance riders as they do not cause the hips to be placed in an unnatural position. Wider saddles will often feel comfortable initially due to their greater surface area but then progressively decrease in comfort as the miles increase, the correct choice of saddle is a case of getting the balance between initial comfort and overall comfort.
About the Fizik brand
The Fi'zi:k brand was born in 1996 - a high-end bicycle saddle line, designed and handmade in Italy by the world's largest saddle manufacturer. Fi'zi:k is the phonetic spelling of the word "physique" - referring to the form or state of the human body. Fizik have three saddle shapes; there is the dipped platform found on the Gobi and Aliante range. The second is their flat style found on the Arione and Pave range. The third is the new Antares which sits between the previous two shapes. Dipped platform saddles give a supported riding position and 'cup' the pelvic bone, these are ideal for riders who tend to remain in one position on the saddle. Flat saddles allow the rider to move forward and backwards on the saddle and are ideal for distance riders on varying terrain. The Antares range bridges the gap between dipped and flat saddles, offering 300% more padding and a 15% larger sitting area when compared to their competitors saddles. Whilst still maintaining a low weight from as little as 145g, there has been no sacrifice to construction or rider comfort. For 2009 Carlos Sastre, of Cervelo Test Team and 2008 Tour De France champion, has made this his saddle of choice. Fizik produce saddles in varying lengths to suit riders needs, Arione are longer in length at over 300mm with an increased nose length. The Pave, Antares and Aliante ranges are a more traditional length at under 290mm. Triathletes, Time Trialists and women are specifically catered for with the Vitesse range. Within this range there is the Tri/TT specific range which incorporates increased padding in the nose of the saddle for extended periods on the tri-bars and the Ladies Life Vitesse which is specifically shaped for the female form.

Magazine reviews for Fizik Aliante Gamma XM Saddle with K:IUM Rails
Review from What MTB
I've got to admit that I've got a bad habit. Other than picking my nose, I don't seem to be able to stop choosing saddles on looks rather than comfort. That was the story with my early brushes with the Fizik Aliante. I thought it was ugly, and after that insult it probably didn't like me either.
My friend and epic cross-country fiend Mike Cotty always rode one and openly professed his love for this Italian drop nose perch. Eventually I got one to try and, well, pretty much anytime I have to ride for more than an hour I make a point of transferring one of my fleet of Aliante saddles to the bike in question.
I've used all the models, from the base to the mountain bike-specific XM right up to the carbon railed version, and all of them are the business. The hammock effect is good from the start, but like all Fizik saddles, they seem to get better the more you use them.
I've got the XM version on long-term test, which features deeper padding and the Fizik Technogel insert. It still has the bucket seat feel, but with a level of upholstery that's just the ticket if you've got a very, very long ride to nail.
So far the uppers of the saddles are holding up well, although they are a little more fragile than some others so care must be taken when leaning the bike up against walls. The carbon rails are strong enough even for big clumsy boys, just try to mate them with a seatpost that has long, supportive lower rails, such as a Syntace or Thomson.
In conclusion...
Swoopy saddle that does the business on long, epic rides
