Excuse my thick question, I have the bike computers, Garmin Edge 705 etc,, when they are advertised, they show mph. I can't see anything that advertises if this running Garmin shows how fast u r currently running?

Recall when playing with the settings a simple "switch" in the settings that change this to the speedo setting you are seeking.
As a runner myself, this is not an overly useful option to change to as the default (mins/distance unit) is more useful.
Also bear in mind that the 610 is highly customisable, something I think is a HUGE undersell of Garmin!

Yes, it can display your current speed. It can also display your average speed for current lap - while you are running. There are several "screens" you can customize to show the info you like.

I have small wrists and the moulded watch strap of my old Forerunner was uncomfortable. Luckily there was an alternative velcro soft strap and tools included in the box.
Is there a velcro soft strap and set of tools included in the box of the FR610?

There wasn't one in the box, however my wife also has very thin wrists and this watch fits much better than her previous 405, which was at least 1cm off her wrist.
This rubber wrist-strap is much more comfortable for her!

Absolutely! I use the watch with the GSC10 Speed/Cadence Sensor; make sure you use the appropriate bike mount to enure the watch is secure when riding.

Answer:
I use it for cycling, together with a cadence sensor and a bike mount. A larger screen would have been nice, and any dedicated cycling GPS would probably outshine this one, but for a runner/hobby cyclist like myself, with 20/20 vision, it's an excellent solution. Love the virtual partner function.

No,
The GPS unit will record all the distance and speed data. If you run outside the footpod is helpful for recording cadence.
If you run on a treadmill, indoors or underground then then the footpod will be picked up and used for distance

No. The watch has a GPS which will give you an accurate distance. You will need a foot pod in areas that do not receive sufficient signals - think forest or indoors.

If you swim with it, it will almost certainly fog up and stop working, from what I've heard from others.
IPX7 is fine for rain-type water though. I've run with mine in the rain, I sweat pretty heavily and also wear it in the shower to rinse it off after runs. For this sort of water exposure, it's fine.

Answer:
No, you can't swim with it - though it's water resistant as far as rain and sweat is concerned and will survive being dropped in a puddle.
According to Wikipedia, IPX7 is: Immersion up to 1m. Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1m of submersion). Test duration: 30 minutes. Immersion at depth of 1m
