Easy to use and see the display
This is the second swim watch I have had and this is much easier to use than my previous watch ( swimovate ) . It can be viewed while swimming and then automatically downloads to my garmin connect account. It occasionally gets my swim stroke incorrect but that may be more about my swim technique than the actual watch. It gives accurate stoke and lap counts.

Great lap counte
Love this product, has made my trips to the pool effortless, and I now know how I'm performing if I miscount laps in my head. Easy to use great product.

Disappointing watch
I've had this watch for a little over 7 months now and have not been happy with it from the start. Early in the piece I noticed condensation forming on the inside of the screen. I was told that this was normal, for a watch of this type. I was also advised not to press buttons while under water. Now the watch doesn't work at all. When working the lap times seemed to be all over the place, when doing 1 km swim splits downloaded ranged from 44 sec per 100m to 1m40sec. It was a good watch for counting laps if that is all your after. It has trouble recognising butterfly and gets confused when using mixed strokes.

Stylish, functional product that really works
Consistently accurate, and does what you expect it to do. Downside is that user interface on watch and website are poor. Particularly disappointed with interface on watch since this is something they could easily update to make quicker and more efficient - let's hope they do. Actually does exactly what it says it does though.

Does what it says on the box
For a weak swimmer this is both easy and simple to use. The product does exactly what it says on the box and allows me to track my swim performance significantly more accurately than using pool side clocks.

Great for swim training
This is a great watch for tracking your swims in a pool. It does not track by GPS so you have to input the size of the pool before you start your swim.
The display is big and clear to see and its easy to scroll through the different training pages. There is only one page which you can customise which may not be enough for some people. Its fine for me as the other preset training pages have plenty of information.
The watch had no problems recognising each length. Overall its a really great watch for tracking your pool swims.

Very handy
Very good for measuring solo swims but also has worked well coming back from a break (making sure I don't overdo it).
Skips a lap every now and then when changing drills but not nearly as much as I used to.
I went with Garmin as my other training equipment is Garmin so can look at the whole lot together.

If you are a regular swimmer and love metrics
Okay you could buy the daddy of all swim computers and get yourself a 910XT - but then it's like wearing a house brick on your wrist.
This is a very elegant piece of kit with the quality that you would expect from Garmin.
Early issues with lap counts seem to have been sorted with the last software update and I personally haven't been getting any strange data since the update.
Data fans will love it, everything you could possibly want to know from your pool swim. Note - this does not cover open water swimming - but then if you are anything like me then you don't really want to know how much extra you have done in the open water by going off course!!
If you want open water metrics then the 910 is the one to go for - but if you are doing the majority of your swim training in the pool then I would say it's really worth it.
The ability to change the battery yourself is a bonus too against some other brands. Note this is not a rechargeable unit like a lot of the Garmin training devices. But the battery life is quotes at least 1 year +

Great product that works most the time
The lap counting is extremely useful, plus synching times with the PC back home. It's one minor flaw is it sometimes gets the start or end of a length time wrong. However the overall time and averages are very accurate.

Superb bit of gear.
Easy to use, very accurate having now used it for 4 weeks it has recorded every lap without error. And now there is a 33.3 Mtr pool option I haven't had to use any custom settings. Would certainly recommend to anyone who like myself can't remember a lap count.

Great product for those wanting to track pool stat
Bought this to encourage myself to swim more. I love being able to see online and on the watch how I'm doing.
The weekly distance display on the clock is genius - it makes me think "oh go on, perhaps I'll try and get 10k this week!"
Recommend it over the Pool Mate Pro simply because it syncs easier and recognises strokes better I think.
Would love it to have conectivity to Fitocracy, fitbit etc etc but at the moment its limited to the Garmin site only.

Can't keep count, buy this
Counts pool laps well, ok as a daily watch. Helps keep track of laps, distance & stroke count.

This product meets the needs
I have bought this Garmin Swim after having used Garmin Edge with my bike for many years. I was not disappointed with the performance of my new device. I would recommend all my fellow swimmers.to use it

Just Buy it
Awesome bit of kit. Tracks everything you need to know and links up with garmin connect and iphone app. you need this if you want to capture all your swim stats and improve

Great Looking and functional
The only drawback is the watch face, it has a plastic lens. It is recessed and provides some protection, just do not use it everyday if you are treat your gear rough.

Does what it needs to
It's great not having to rely on my counting to get me through my laps. The watch does what i paid for and the on-line analytical options add good value and help with motivation. The large screen could be better used as the digital output is confined to the inner limits.

Good Watch, but a little expensive
Dont normally write reviews, but this product is excellant and does everything you would expect from a Garmin. Only minor grumble is the cost, quite expensive when you compare aganist a Poolmate watch.

Personlly I would make it waterproof
I am not going to comment too much on the functionality of the watch because I haven't had much of a chance to use it. However the build quality appears to be appalling, to be fair this is based on only the first two watches I have been sent!
The first one had a button fall off the third time I used it, I sent this back and got a replacement watch. The replacement lasted about two minutes, I mean you'd at least expect a swimming watch to be waterproof?
The second watch appears to have a faulty seal as I can see the black ring in the face. Probably a refurbished one they didn't fix properly. I bought this to train for an ironman but by the time I get one that works I will have finished the race!
I also previously purchased a Garmin forerunner which broke and had to be replaced so I am becoming rather disenchanted with Garmin products.

not for mixed strock swimming
Bought this as an up grade from the poolmate, but after a few months of use have gone back to to using the poolmate.
As a masters swimmer i use all four strokes in my sessions and this product only rarely recognizes the correct stroke.
As an example this morning i did a fly pyramid 25- 50 -75 -100-75 50 -25, but according to the Garmin i did 25back-50mixed-75free100free-75back-50back-25back.
It also tends to either miss lengths or add lengths, and when looking at 25mtr splits i may have done a 50mtr in 40s but it shows as 15s and 25s.
I have found it more reliable if you do a long session of all front crawl and swim at a very even pace through the whole session

Very useful
I do a lot of swim sets & send results to an online coach, so this watch is great for that...& I can't cheat! However, & this is why it misses a star, most sessions it will either miss a length or add one on which is really annoying. I prefer this to my old PoolMate watch.

Awesome watch... way better than the poolmate i had aswell!

Nice gadget for a lap swimmig
Do all the necessary calculations. Great integrations with Garmin Connect. Feel uncomfortable without them right now.
Could be less expensive but that's Garmin :)
18 February 2013
It works very well.
It's a good looking product that performs well. But beware its not good for a pool less than 20m as this is the smallest lap length you can set.
16 February 2013
Easy to use
Does everything I need it to do for indoor swimming. Easy to use and see. Uploading workouts easy as well.
12 February 2013
Great watch but unnecessary
This is an excellent watch... it does all that you would want it to do, and it is very interesting to analyze the session after you have completed it... However, its not necessary! It is only interesting to analyze the session, but doesn't improve your swimming. So is it worth the money?
12 February 2013
good feature, lots of data, mostly accurate
I'm really enjoying using the Garmin for my swimming. Records a lot of info, pretty accurate but occasionally added an extra length to my swim. Dunno how, perhaps its my swimming technique!

Another great Garmin product
Great lightweight but durable watch that links effortless with Garmin Connect. Plenty of features to monitor your swimming and offers a clear face generally which shoes time/date and metres swam.
26 January 2013
Good product
Overall I am pleased. It does sometimes miss a length on freestyle, but this may be to do with my technique. I bought this as it included a Garmin Ant+ stick and it syncs with my PC very well.

Moisture leakage.
The watch is great, does exactly what it claims to do, great features. The only concerning thing was that it has leaked moisture in it after the third swim it was used for. It hasn't affected the functions of the watch but its very disappointing that a "swim" watch isn't even water proof. The moisture is out now but will most likely return. Not sure whether to return it or see if it gets any worse.
I use a Garmin edge 800 when cycling and haven't had any problems with that, would be good if this watch was of the same quality.
A swim watch that leaks moisture? Sort of defeats the purpose of having a specifically made swim watch. Not sure if this is a once off or if others have had the same problem?

Garmin connect inadequate...
the watch is fantastic. looks great, fab data for personal use only...
the only reason i wouldnt recommend buying this watch yet is because garmin connect has decided not to allow the function "save as tcx file" (which was allowed 2 weeks ago), thus i cannot export my data to a social site like strava- this was my main reason getting this watch to motivate me in swimming.
