Inner Tubes Explained

1. What are Inner Tubes?

   An inner tube pressurises the area beneath the bike tyre. The edges of the tire wrap over the edges of the rim with the inner tube nestled inside the tyre. It is an essential component in making a bicycle wheel function. The inner tube keeps your bike tyres hard and helps them roll smoothly.

2. Why are they good?

   Inner tubes are good because there are a wide variety of inner tubes available in different sizes, valves and materials for you to choose from. All you have to do is find a tube that is fit for the purpose of your style of riding and budget.

3. How should I choose?

   Choose an inner tube that matches your tyre size and diameter to ensure the tube fits correctly. Presta or Shrader valves are most common valve types used to inflate the tube. Latex inner tubes offer significant weight savings over butyl rubber inner tubes. The latter also hold air more effectively and are cheaper in price.
