GT has demanded the same of their women’s mountain bikes as it demands of all bikes: eternal durability and supreme handling and this is no exception. Women’s trail bikes are the culmination of everything you ride for, including riding faster than the boys and with the Karakoram, performance and stability has been proven time and time again.
This women's specific 29er delivers excellent ride qualities and coupled with great performing components, the bike that wants to ride fast, perform at its best and give total enjoyment with every ride. This machine is based around GT’s Speed Metal frame design, with 29er geometry features, and Rockshox XC28 forks which features 100mm of travel.
This classic 29er hardtail from GT features an aluminium frame with the iconic Triple Triangle. Originally developed to extend the frame life, stiffen the rear triangle and thus create a faster, more responsive ride, the Triple Triangle™ frame has transcended its role as just another tech story and become an iconic symbol of who GT are and what they stand for. As well as the lightweight alloy frame, you get a pair of Rockshox XC28 forks. These delivers excellent damping and soak up everything (well virtually) you steer this machine over.
The Karakoram Elite also comes fitted with the powerful and trustworthy Avid DB1 hydraulic disc brakes. Superb stopping power is guaranteed and with the pads clamping around a set of 160mm rotors, stopping is awesome whatever the weather. A mixture of Shimano Deore and Alivio components provide the shifting mechanisms, whilst the Shimano Alivio triple chainset (44/32/22), coupled with the rear 9 speed cassette, provides the 27 gearing choices you have at your disposal. Climb the toughest of hills, and hurtle down the descents and along the flats - with 27 gears you can.
The wheelset is a combination of Jalco XCD22 rims, built on All Terra hubs, and Continental Race King 29x2.0 tyres. This is a superb matching that brings together strength and durability and is what you want from a pair of wheels when speeding over the rough terrain.
The 29" wheel has established itself as the most popular MTB wheel size for good reason. The benefits are simple to understand. A bigger wheel rolls over bumps better than a smaller wheel: this increases control, builds confidence, maintains momentum and makes you faster. The big wheels also provide extra traction in corners and off cambers as more rubber is in touch with the ground.
Frame heights are generally the same as the standover height so the bikes don’t feel bigger to ride. From a handling perspective the geometry of a 29er bike differs from a 26 with the chainset positioned noticeably lower than the centre of the wheel hubs, this provides a sensation of sitting in the bike, not on top of the bike, creating extra traction in faster corners and solid boost of confidence.
The Karakoram range of MTB's are ridden everywhere so they are equally at home on the singletrack, the sprint for the finish line or a Sunday thrash with your friends. Built to last, providing excellent durability and great performance, the Karakoram is a trail bike for whatever you ride however you ride it.
Each Karakoram is fully built, tested and tuned by Wiggle's team of qualified bike mechanics to ensure you're bike arrives in perfect condition. To find out which size fits you use the size chart below.

About Hard Tail Mountain Bikes
If you are looking for a mountain bike that can comfortably negotiate bumpy, cross-country, singletracks yet still be quick and nimble on the road, then a hardtail bike is for you. Hard tail mountain bikes have front suspension, weigh less and are more pedal efficient when the terrain is smooth, than full suss bikes. A good number of single track racers still use hardtails for these reasons. At wiggle, we stock a wide variety of hardtail mountain bike brands including Felt, Focus, GT, Kona, Mongoose, Saracen and more. So if you are searching for superb, quality spec hardtail mountain bikes at great value with a legendary service to match, then you've come to the right place.
About the GT brand
GT Bikes, based in Southern California, has been in the business of making great bikes since 1972 when Gary Turner launched one of the first performance BMX race bikes. Developing world class bikes in conjunction with the world’s best BMX rider such as Greg Hill, Eddie Fiola, Clive Gosling and Dave Mirra, GT grew into one of the biggest brands. With a BMX heritage and based in California the MTB scene was the perfect addition in the late 80’s . GT used the same model of developing performance bikes with the best riders, pioneering new suspension technology and the use of carbon fibre in MTB frames. Winning numerous World Championships in downhill and cross country racing with legendary riders such Nicholas Vouilloz, Steve Peat and more recently Atherton Racing, with Dan Gee and Rachel Atherton. Hans “No Way” Ray has been one of the figurehead of GT’s longstanding team rider program, setting the record for longest sponsorship deal of 26 (?) years and counting. It hasn’t always been about dirt, in the mid 90’s GT took there carbon technology and build track bikes for the USA Olympic team, the bike was later banned for being too fast. GT latest crop of Enduroad Grade models play perfect testament to the brands heritage across, dirt, road and track.
The size chart below will get you on the right size bike. Experienced riders may also wish to refer to the geometry chart for more detail.
Getting the Right Fit
At Wiggle we measure each of our bikes to build accurate size charts for our customers. Our qualified team of mechanics then individually check each order, against measurements supplied by you, to ensure the size chosen is correct. Another reason you can have complete confidence when buying a bike from Wiggle!
If you are on the change over between sizes both options will fit. Racers and experienced riders would usually select a smaller size as this offers quicker handing. A larger bike offers more stability and is more suited to new and intermediate riders.
