The Special Edition pink Mini disc brake, Braided Hose and a Floating Rotor, with it's unique laser etching and flowery rotor design, is as eye catching as it is functional.
MINI LEVER: Proven lightweight design - CNC machined from a solid billet of 2014 T6 aircraft spec aluminium alloy, giving smooth, progressive feel and power. The split clamp allows for quick adjustment and the custom carbon blade features laquered over graphics to stay clean and comfortable. Lever reach is adjustable via allen key and the master cylinder reservoir is integrated to allow easy bleeding. The unit is completed with our durable anodised finish to withstand weather, cleaning and general trail use and a Goodridge braided hydraulic hose is used to give a sharp, solid feel to the system.X2 CALIPER: This neat, slimline caliper optimises the very latest COSMOSWorks FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software to reduce unnecessary weight, improve aesthetics and create a high performance partnership with the superlight Mini Lever. The caliper is machined from a solid billet of 2014 T6 aircraft spec aluminium alloy and an increased piston diameter, generating more usable braking force on the rotor. A drip free bleed nipple and wide angel orientation of the fluid inlet connector have also been added, allowing for neater hose routing and cleaner servicing. The caliper is completed with our durable anodised finish to withstand weather, cleaning and general trail use and laser etched graphics let everyone know just what you've got!BRAIDED HOSE: A little bit of Hope can now be added to all hydraulic disc brakes. After extensive research and testing Hope have sourced an excellent, UK manufactured stainless steel braided hose - coming from the same factory as Goodridge. The hose features a Teflon central core, encased in a stainless steel braid. The braiding also has a plastic coating to prevent chafing on frames and forks. The hose allows no expansion, even in the most extreme situations, transferring all braking power from the lever to the caliper. It's also extremely tough as well as being more flexible than standard hoses.FLOATING ROTOR: These Floating rotors are now a firm favourite amongst both performance orientated riders and those just looking for something a little different. These rotors have a stainless steel braking surface riveted to an aluminium central carrier. As well as offering a significant weight saving, they also allow the rotors to expand or contract with changes in temperature. CNC machined + laser cut in Barnoldswick, England. All parts made and hand assembled in house.
Bicycle disc brakes consist of a metal disc attached to the wheel hub that rotates with the wheel. Brake calipers are attached to the frame or fork along with pads that squeeze together on the disc. The way it is attached to the bike will be either by IS (International Standard) which has two holes facing the disc or Post Mount, which has threads going into the fork. Disc brakes have been successfully used on motorbikes for decades, and are the principal choice there. The primary benefit of disc brakes is that they perform equally well in all conditions including water, mud and snow. This is due to their position closer to the hub and away from the ground and possible contaminants like water, which can coat and freeze on the rim in colder temperatures. The pads are usually made from metal sinters or an organic compound instead of rubber. Water acts as a lubricant to rubber but not metal, therefore disc brakes maintain their stopping power in wet conditions. They also avoid the problem that rim brakes have of wearing out the wheel rims, especially in muddy conditions, as well as the requirement that the rim be straight. Disc brakes offer improved modulation of braking power and generally require less finger effort to achieve the same braking power. The advantages of discs make them well-suited to steep, extended downhills through wet and muddy off-road terrain, common in freeride bicycle riding.
