Tech 3 Master Cylinder
Hope have kept the key features of the Tech Evo master cylinder and worked to improve the ergonomics and integration on the handlebars. The Tech 3 master cylinder offers a slight increase of power of about 5% over the Tech Evo.
Popular design features of Tech Evo remain the same, such as the reach and bite point control (BPC)adjustability. The piston is actuated by a cam and a roller system to eliminate any free play and initial friction. The classic split clamp design makes the master cylinder easy to install on the handlebars without having to remove anything else.
Some riders have previously commented on the relative bulkiness of the old Tech and Tech Evo master cylinders, sometimes making it hard to fit the master cylinder around already clogged up handlebars (shifters, fork and shock lockouts, telescopic seat post controls etc). Hope have worked hard to make the new Tech 3 master cylinder easier to integrate on the bars although it does entail losing the ambidextrous design.
The Tech 3 master cylinder is now directly compatible with any Shimano I-Spec type shifter meaning no extra mount is required to attach the shifter to the master cylinder and for those using SRAM shifters Hope have designed a slick and minimalistic direct mount adapter.
The revised one piece caliper is CNC machined from a solid billet of 2014 T6 aircraft spec aluminium alloy. The increased caliper stiffness gives better efficiency as well as increased pad surface area for better heat management and pad life. The new V4 as a complete unit inc rotor is lighter than the previous V2 model.
About Disc Brakes
Bicycle disc brakes consist of a metal disc attached to the wheel hub that rotates with the wheel. Brake calipers are attached to the frame or fork along with pads that squeeze together on the disc. The way it is attached to the bike will be either by IS (International Standard) which has two holes facing the disc or Post Mount, which has threads going into the fork. Disc brakes have been successfully used on motorbikes for decades, and are the principal choice there. The primary benefit of disc brakes is that they perform equally well in all conditions including water, mud and snow. This is due to their position closer to the hub and away from the ground and possible contaminants like water, which can coat and freeze on the rim in colder temperatures. The pads are usually made from metal sinters or an organic compound instead of rubber. Water acts as a lubricant to rubber but not metal, therefore disc brakes maintain their stopping power in wet conditions. They also avoid the problem that rim brakes have of wearing out the wheel rims, especially in muddy conditions, as well as the requirement that the rim be straight. Disc brakes offer improved modulation of braking power and generally require less finger effort to achieve the same braking power. The advantages of discs make them well-suited to steep, extended downhills through wet and muddy off-road terrain, common in freeride bicycle riding.

Magazine reviews for Hope Tech 3 V4 Purple Disc Brake with Braided Hose
Review from Bikeradar
Hope has clearly worked hard on its latest downhill brakes. The big four-piston, single-piece V4 calliper boosts very impressive power. Heat tolerance and pad life are also improved significantly over the old two-pot V2 without adding weight, although it's still a hefty system.
Drag-free set-up is easy, braided hoses are standard and you can even run Hope's double-skin vented rotors (203mm only).
The much neater Tech 3 lever isn't ambidextrous like before, but it syncs far better with shifters (it's Shimano I-Spec compatible), uses a cam roller for smooth, rattle-free feel and is super-adjustable.
Hope's event and factory back-up is legendary too. And although it's pretty heavy, the V4 combines unparalleled lever adjustment with massive power.
Unparalleled lever adjustment and massive power
