Hubs are the central part of a bike wheel. It comprises of hub shell, axle and bearings. The hub has drilled holes for the housing of spokes. The rear hub has either a freehub or thread for allowing either a cassette or freewheel to be fitted.
Hubs are an intrinsic part of a bike wheel. A well maintained and cared for hub allows your wheels to rotate smoothly and efficiently. The rear hub transmits power from the chain to propel the bike forwards.
The number of spoke holes in the hubs will need to match the number of holes in your rims. For geared bikes the freehub type needs to match the cassette fitting. Sealed bearings are simple to change, making them ideal if you are not particularly mechanically minded.
