One of the best shoes out
The moment i put these on my feet i knew they were right for me. They were immediately comfortable and hugged my feet like a sock. These are the first shoes I have not had to properly break in and have never had issues with pressure points or blisters. I use them mainly for trail running and adventure racing and a lot of my training is over either slippery, muddy terrain or up the mountain here in New Zealand where there is a lot of rock and scree. The mesh upper doesnt hold too well on a scree run and it has torn due to dust getting in and drying the material and then a rock cutting it but these shoes are without a doubt the best i have ever used. The sole is grippy and the low profile is outstanding for trail running, i dont know why people put so much cushioning in because this is obviously much better,. You can really feel the trail as you run which increases speed and stability. For 24hour adventure races and shorter these are super comfortably but for a longer race (a few days) you may want to look into slightly more foot protection to preserve you feet. These shoes are for people with slightly narrower feet so if you have massive saucepans on the end of your legs it would be worthwhile trying them on to see if you can cope.
There is simply no better all round endurance/trail shoe out there. Super comfy and fits like a glove. What more could you want?

LIght weight, great performance
Very happy with my Inov-8's.
Size accurate, the traction and grip outstanding. Use on forest trails and off road. Clean up well each time, and look like new again.

I brought these trainers and went straight out and done a 65miler in them, possibly not the best way to break them in however: the roclite285 performed excellent over the south downs, they are very light and the grip is superb. After 70kms they started getting a bit tight, that was possibly due to my feet starting to swell, but inov8 do tag them as performance, its a pity they don't do them in anatomical as well. I found that moving the laces up one hole give a bit more space in the toe box, but overall i was extremely impressed with them. A great minimalistic trainer

Great trail shoes
I've always been a Roclite fan and after trying a few pairs of 315, 320, back to 315s then 295's and these, 285s have established themselves as my favourite.
They are only shock zone two cushioning, but the control and feel and fact I'm not that big mean these edge the 295 and 315's.
Great shoes for more rugged trails, easy trails if a bit wet and muddy (try f-lites for dry, easy trails, another great shoe) even suitable for some of the rocky fell due to sticky rubber. Though for extreme stuff I'd prefer a proper fell shoe.
Good endurance, usually no problems to well beyond 500 miles in any Inov8 trail shoe for me and these are no exception. They just lose a bit of grip by the last few hundred miles of life.
I've used these on runs ranging from easy flat trail of just a few miles upto Bob graham round recces (fell) of 25miles and also for ultra-trail, two 50+s and no issues.

This shoe, and inov-8s in general are fairly narrow shoes with a soft flexy upper for various foot builds. As a result it will fit to most feet comfortably (most comfortable shoes i have ever worn) but if you have huge sauce pan feet these are going to be too narrow to do you justice on the trail in terms of support and protection.Country : New Zealand

I over-pronate and suffer from ITB pain unless I run in shoes that offer support. I am looking for a very versatile all-terrain running shoe that can handle trekking through both rainforest and rocky hills as well as running (up to 13 miles at a time) on roads and trails. Are the Innov-8 Roclite 285's suitable or are there other models that would be better?

inov-8 shoes are designed to allow your foot to have its natural movement and to promote a neutral running style. If you over pronate a lot you are going to need a shoe that can support this style of running-which unfortunately probably isnt going to be the Roclites. That being said, these shoes are the comfiest i have ever worn and they fit like a glove around your foot, which is how it is designed so that you can run with your body's natural style. You would probably be best however to get a more supportive shoe if you suffer from ITB pain as the comfort of this shoe wouldnt be worth the other pains. Hope that helpsCountry : New Zealand

Hi,I do slightly over-pronate and used this shoe in 50k trail races. They work well for me. But just recently I bought Salomon Speedcross 2 which has some pronation support and seems to work better in that regards (reduce stress, less pain).
However the Inov-8 has a more direct feeling to the ground which I prefer.
But for more than 50k of trail running I would now use the Speedcross2 or the Inov-8 315
