Simple sealed cable set up I found this relatively simple to install to covert my cables to a sealed (well relatively) system. Haven't really put it through its paces yet, but has improved the poor shifing I had from contaminated cables. 03 July 2010

I've experienced bad shifting on my 4 year old XT group set and replaced the cables with XTR and couldn't believe the difference in shifting so when the time came to replace them again I bought a Jagwire set . They are very good quality and shift better than the XTR , I like the extra outer sheath that protects the cables from mud and muck , my only complaint is that the instructions are a little vague . 03 March 2013

Slick I'd never really thought about upgrading my cables. But it seems obvious that its an essential part of the bike. So when I needed to replace a damaged cable housing I thought I'd go the whole hog and get something better. The kit was relatively easy to fit (no more difficult than replacing any cable) and when putting it together you can tell its going to withstand the wet & dirt much better than a standard cable. Very please with it so far and its don some very muddy rides. Time will tell if it lasts. 07 February 2013

Well worth the expenditure I put up with bad Shifting for months, Kept cleaning the original cables and actually replaced the more expensive items, Shifter,Chain,Cassette and still didn't cure the problem although my brain was saying "change the cables". The shifting worked but the Arm just appeared to be "lazy with no zip". I think it was the thought of paying nearly "£30 for a bit of wire". But I finally bit the bullet. What a difference, I like the complete inner Liner idea that takes the exposed cable through the guide at the frame bottom and the seals on the outer cables. The whole thing was easy to fit. I used a small Hacksaw to cut the Outercable to avoid "Squashing". A great Product Product, now looking to replace Brake Cables as well. I also like the choice of colours, my only grouse.....Yellow outers rather than Gold would have been nice! 24 January 2013

Are these fully covered?

Im looking at upgrading the cable i have on my current bike, but they're underslung so i was wondering if these are fully covered with an outer so that i can keep them clean?

Yep, they are, on my bike at least (Cannondale Prophet). All cables including front mech are hidden in outer cables. Lovely set.

There is sufficient cable outer to have full outers on the front and rear mechs (True at time of reply - post August 2011). note that this has not always been the case with Jagwire cables.

You cut the outer to fit where you want, but this is usually from the shifter to the first cable stop then the small section at the rear derailleur to the cable stop on the chainstay. For in between there is a thin plastic sheath that slides onto the end caps where the cable outer stops. I ended up not using this though, as it created to much resistence where it passes under bottom bracket.

Yeah they are a 'sealed' system that should help in this area - it's why I got em. Still yet to fully test the durability on a wet muddy ride, but so far so good.

Yes these are fully compatible with SRAM shifters and derailleurs, in fact they use SRAM in the instructions for fitting. Unfortunately they do not give the exact measurement of the inner cable.

What tools do you need for fitting?

Do you need any special tools for fitting?

Also, do you have to take the triggers apart? I took one of my triggers apart once and ended up having to buy a new one because all of the insides pinged out!

Basically just a small Hacksaw with a NEW blade in it. You can use a pair of Cutters to cut the outers but using a Hacksaw avoids crushing the cable at the cutting point

Answer:

The only special tool you need is a housing cutter. It also helps to have a pointy object like a dental pick round out the freshly cut ends. There is not need to take the shifters apart. Shift them into the small ring on the front and the smallest cog on the back, unless you have a low normal rear derailleur, in which case go to the biggest cog. This lines the shifter internals up. You then remove a threaded cover over the insertion hole and you can push the inner cable out of the shifter once you detach it from the derailleur. Search on line for pictures or video if you don't understand what I am describing.
