About Chain Devices & Bash Guards

Chain devices fit in various places around a mountain bikes transmission and help to eliminate chain suck and chain slap when riding over rough terrain or landing from big drops. There are a number of fitments, some frames have ISCG mounts which are lugs on the drive-side of the bottom bracket shell and allow direct fitment to the frame, other chain devices fit in between the bottom bracket and frame and require a specific bottom bracket with a larger drive-side cup, and finally there is the type that clamp around the seat tube in place of the front mech. Also within this section you can find single speed chain tensioners which fit in place of the rear mech and take up any chain slack.There is also a selection of wheel tugs which stop you pulling your wheel over in horizontal dropouts.

Great solution to problem Fitted this K-Edge MTB Chain Catcher to my Giant Anthem X1. The Chain Catcher needed a minor technical adjustment (bend) to clear the rear suspension linkage. Would highly recommend this K-Edge MTB Chain Catcher for other cross country mountain bikers. 30 March 2010

Superb solution Completely solved my chain dropping issue. My Canyon runs a direct mount (SRAM X9) front mech which can't be adjusted in height. This caused a problem when dropping from the 36t front to 24t granny whilst in the two largest cogs (34/36 10 speed) on the cassette. The chain would continually miss the granny and end up on the bottom bracket cup. The catcher stops this by being a physical stop as the chain drops down from the middle to granny. Since fitted not one single dropped chain, brilliant :) 06 September 2011

Great, simple and effective product Very nice machining and very very simple to install. Once on you can hardly notice it is there and it lines up beautifully with the chain on the smallest ring, clearance is perfect. What else can I say, no more dropped chain when you start that rocky climb and quickly drop to the granny! 11 August 2011

Simple and Effective Before I got this product I was always dropping the chain on rough descents. Since fitting this device it hasn't happened once. The chain still flicks off but as soon as you start pedalling the device feeds it back onto the chain rings again and you're away. It's simple, light and effective. 09 August 2011

As long as you have a drive side spacer behind the bottom bracket cup then yes it will. It replaces this.

It works on my 960, it very simply replaces the shimano spacer in the drive side, my BB setup had 2 spacers on the drive side and 1 on the non-drive, you remove the cranks replace the most outboard spacer on the drive side and put back together.

No reason why not, we haven't tested it and it would also rely on what frame you are using but the design makes it pretty much universal for fitting.

Yes it does. Mounted on the bottom bracket then rises up towards front mech. Catches chain on way down. Hope this helps.

It is possible but generally it is designed for 22t minimum. Fitment does depend on your setup.

Will it work with Race Face Deus XC cranks?

According to the compatibility chart on http://www.acecosportgroup.com/shop/k-edge-chain-catchers/mountain/k-edge-dirt-3.html it won't. Is there really a huge difference between Deus and Next, that can't be solved by a small bend or something?

Unfortunately this will not work with the Deus XC cranks and rings. There only needs to be a very small difference to cause issues with devices like this so I would not recommend using it for a incompatible chainset.
