About MTB Off-Road Tyres
These tyres are for mountain bikes and intended primarily for off road use, the knobbly patterns provide grip when steering and traction when applying power to the pedals. There is usually a tyre to suit the conditions in which you are riding in so the right choice is important. On dry days a narrow tyre with a smoother central tread can be used, but on a wet day a wider tyre with a deeper knobbly tread pattern is essential or you could be the one in contact with the mud.

Magazine reviews for Kenda Tomac Nevegal DTC Folding Mountain Bike Tyre
Review from MBUK
The bigger sizes of the Nevegal have impressed us in the past, withtheir thick casing and soft rubber, but we've previously turned a bit of a blind eye to its lighter weight XC-based carcass.
It was only when we rode this tyre on the Marin Attack Trail recently thayt we realised just how good it is an an all-round XC and general thrashing tyre.
The paddle-like centre row of tread hooks up well - and clears all but the claggiest of gloop, while the intermediate shoulder knobs are fairly prominent, offering great control in off-camber situations.
The shoulder knobs are adequate for most cornering, but come unstuck a little on the irritating clay that we suffer from round here. That said, they've been great everywhere else. Our only reservation is that the casing is fairly thin, although to date we haven't had any punctures.
In conclusion...
A great all-round tyre, available in lightweight XC through to rock-munching DH variants.
Rating: Performance: 7 | Value: 8
Review from Bikeradar
The often forgotten Kenda tyre range has a gem for the UK. The Nevegal 2.1 DTC's shallow, hard compound centre tread with leading edge knobs makes this a quick one in the wet.
Combine this with the softer compound yet well-supported side knobs and you have a tyre with great cornering grip.
The open, shallow tread clears quickly, but the round profile may not suit aggressive riders in turns.
In conclusion...
Good value, tubeless-ready dual compound tyres with great wet-weather tread
Rating: 9/10

I actually run 2.5 tyres (Maxxis Swampthing) on the front and back for more grip, less force on the wheels and increased safety. These particular tyres are superb for winter time. There is a massive difference between a 2.1 and a 2.5 tyre.
Some people think that the front should be narrower to improve steering but this is not really applicable to mountain bikes. Narrow tyres on the front (and wider on the back) are used for motorbikes and some performance cars.
