CAP or CAP PLY as it has been referred to is an added layer of material that is under the tread area and runs from bead to bead. Generally used in Kenda Premium Downhill Tires as a puncture resistant material designed to prevent pinch flats. |

Kenda is Certified by Mavic to build tubeless tyres to the UST (Universal System Tubeless) standards. Tubeless tyres offer decreased rolling resistance for easier pedaling. By eliminating the tube, lower air pressure can be achieved and the chances of pinch flattening is eliminated. |

The ultimate tread compound. Kenda's L3R PRO compound (60 shore A durometer) in the center and the cornering knobs have Stick-E compound (50 shore A durometer). The benefits are great center thread life, and great cornering control and grip. Found typically in Kenda's Legends Series and race/performance tyres. |

About MTB Off-Road Tyres
These tyres are for mountain bikes and intended primarily for off road use, the knobbly patterns provide grip when steering and traction when applying power to the pedals. There is usually a tyre to suit the conditions in which you are riding in so the right choice is important. On dry days a narrow tyre with a smoother central tread can be used, but on a wet day a wider tyre with a deeper knobbly tread pattern is essential or you could be the one in contact with the mud.
About the Kenda brand

Magazine reviews for Kenda Tomac Small Block 8 DTC Mountain Bike Tyre
Review from Singletrack
...Needless to say this made for a very, very fast rolling tyre. We could feel the cumulative effect of reduced drag even on short rides where we felt much less knackered than usual...
In conclusion...
Finally a fast rolling, high performance tyre that can cope with nine out of 12 months of British weather.
Review from Bikeradar
It's a curious looking tyre, but the Small Block Eight has proved itself the ultimate summer trail tread time and time again.
By using so many small knobs with ramped front faces (like a miniature version of the Kenda Nevegal tread), the SB8 rolls really quickly on hard surfaces, and it's impressively light so acceleration is excellent too.
The unrelenting adhesion of the dual tread compound (DTC) is outstanding. It can occasionally clog in damp conditions or slip off its small shoulder tread in loose terrain, but otherwise you can use it front or rear without any compromise of cornering speed or ferocity - which is just as well considering how fast it charges down the trail.
This 2.1in carcass is as wide as most 2.2inchers so it floats well, and the new SWS (sidewall shield) strip is not only impressively rock-and rip-proof, it's also reflective for a comedy glitter effect on night rides.
All those knobs form a really good protective layer against pinch flats and thorn punctures and they spread the wear widely: we've got two-year-old tyres that look almost new.
The price is below average considering the above-average performance and there are options for all occasions.
In conclusion...
An outstanding mix of speed, grip and durability makes the SB8 SWS our ultimate summer rubber
Rating: 9/10
Review from MBR
for dry, hardpacked or rocky trails our tyre of choice has a large volume, semi rounded profile and small knobs - exactly like the 2.35in Small Block 8 tested here. We couldn't fault this tyre on rough dusty trails, exposed bedrock, fire road slag or loamy forest paths, but it does have thin sidewalls which makes it unsuitable for use with Stan's No Tubes system because they leak.
In conclusion...
Overall this is an excellent dry weather trail tyre.
