About Rear Lights
Almost all bicycle rear lights use LEDs instead of filament bulbs as they are more reliable and use much less battery power, whilst also offering much higher levels of brightness. Used in flashing mode, they are very good at attracting attention from other road users. It's advisable to use at least two rear bike lights, a common configuration is one flashing and one in constant, this is highly advisable just in case one stops or becomes obscured.
In order to cycle on the road it may be a legal requirement in your country to use a light certified to a specific standard or an international equivalent. Most but not all lights sold on Wiggle are certified and labelled with a European CEN standard. Please check your country’s requirements to see if this is sufficient and if necessary contact the manufacturer to see if this light has been additionally certified for your country. Strangely some of the very best lights are not legal on their own and should be used with an additional legal backup light.

Magazine reviews for Lezyne Zecto Drive Rear LED Light
Review from road.cc
For those cyclists that use two lights, something with a constant beam plus the Zecto Drive in flash mode would be an ideal combination....for general weekend cycling where you're making the occasional early start (or a late finish) and need lights for just an hour or two – perhaps using 'daytime' mode for the bulk of your ride – then one rear light is often enough, and this Zecto Drive is ideal.
An absolute little gem. Neat, compact, bright, rechargeable, waterproof and easy-fitting rear light, ideal for pre-dawn starts or all-day rides in dull conditions & fairly priced.

Does anyone know if it is possible to mount this effectively to a helmet? I need a good helmet light, and this may be what I'm looking for.
there are pictures on the web that show these and I think for a helmet the strap would be the best option as the clip is only suitable for thin materials like a jersey or a saddle bag strap.
You would need to have a suitable vertical surface on your helmet that would allow the strap to pass through or the angle would be all wrong. Also the strap is quite sort so you might need to find longer O-rings to make it fit.
If you can get it to mount it would be a really good helmet light due to its size. USB access and switch are on the sides so it wouldn't have to be removed.
In terms of mounting it on a helmet, I get a good fit using the rubber ladder attachment over the back of the cradle.
You may be able to mount through the vents on your helmet direct, but would likely be touch and go. Depending on your views on such things, you could absolutely do it with a couple of zip ties to create a mounting loop and use the belt clip / rubber ladder over those.
It fits fine around a seat post though.
So long as there's any sort of space behind the reflective strip, you should be able to thread both through and then it attaches well.
