Would be improved if opening was on longest side. This item is basically a big bag. The thickness of the plastic is good and I can imagine that it will be pretty durable. Unfortunately the bag opening is along the shorter edge which makes it difficult to put on/off on your own. I feel that it would be improved significantly if the opening were along one of the long edges allowing it to be placed over the bike quickly and easily. I have cut mine along the length so it is now open on 2 sides and use a clamp to hold it in place on the front wheel. 15 February 2013

A giant plastic bag, not a cover for regular use I was looking for a cheap plastic cover to drop over my commuter bike in the courtyard to help with rain protection. While listed as a cover, this is actually a very large plastic bag, with an opening on one short side. To get the bike in, it would have to be wheeled into the bag (so not a rapid process). The closed-in environment also wouldn't really suit my storage requirement, as any moisture that went into the bag with the bike would be fairly well trapped. The bag was also not quite big enough to stretch over a commuter bike with a large metal basket on the front. Having said all that, the plastic is reasonably robust and flexible and what I was hoping for at this price point. I ended up slicing open one of the long sides and clipping up the previous opening to make a big open envelope I can drop over my bike with relative ease. At this price, it wasn't worth trying to return the product and I didn't have many qualms about slicing it up. Slicing and leaving the base open also made the fitting over the basket a non-issue - there is a small gap at ground level but this is probably good for air circulation. If you're looking for a protective cover for a longer term arrangement (say storing a bike for a season or packing it for long-distance travel) then this would be a suitable option. While it wasn't looking likely to fit over the front end accessories on a commuter bike, it should have no problems with a road or regular mountain bike. If you are looking for a regular cover, I'd suggest spending the extra to get one more suited to purpose. 12 November 2012

Perfect for travelling or at home. The Lifeline Essential Rain Cover does exactly what is required for a great price. I have used this product in a number of situations in a short space of time, and it has survived intact. It proved perfect for keeping the bike dry whilst it sat racked up for a Tri and then kept the inside of the car clean on the return trip. I now use this in the shed to keep off unwanted dust/dirt. 07 November 2012
