The market is awash with high-power light units shouting about how many lumens they are putting out, but the important thing is how this power is put onto the trail.
So how well does the Seca transfer its mighty 700 Lumens? In a word - fantastically. The Seca uses six high-power LEDs and a very well designed reflector-and-lens combination to give a piercingly bright long spot beam which blends almost seamlessly into a usefully wide flood beam.
There is a warm tinge to the beam, which gives much better definition of trail texture than the cold and bleached out blue-white light of similar priced and powered units.
We found the light was best used with the supplied helmet mount, with the large and heavy battery in our hydration pack. The head unit is noticeably heavy with its metal cooling fin-adorned construction, so needs to be used with a helmet with a decent retention system.
That said, the light is still outstanding when bar mounted. The lead from the head unit to the battery is plenty long enough to be able to mount it super low in the frame, to minimise the effect of the added weight.
Adding to this trail blazing performance, the unit will run for a full five hours on full chat, with a medium and a low setting giving 10 and 20 hours respectively. Full charge of the Li-ion battery is achieved in a super-rapid three hours.
In conclusion...
A superb unit that lets you hit night-time trails at daytime speed
