This low-profile lid from Limar is extremely lightweight - 187g, to be precise. That's even lighter than the manufacturer's claimed 200g for the large size, and safely inside the 'so light you can barely feel it' range. Your highest priority might not be to trim off grams when it comes to protecting your head, but the 104 passes all the safety regs, so who are we to argue?

With a retention device that encircles the whole of your head, the Limar fitted everyone we asked to wear it, although try before you buy to be on the safe side. It doesn't reach quite as far down the back of your head as some, but it's hinged so you can position it comfortably and tightness is easily adjusted via a dial at the back. Adjusting the straps is simple enough too with little cam-lock levers that don't shift once you have them in place. The whole thing is secure although we didn't find that it cradled the head as well as a Giro, say - that's all going to come down to the individual fit so, as we said, you're best trying it on for size.

The Coolmax padding is adequate rather than plush but we never felt we were being short-changed on comfort and it's easy to take out for washing. The vents funnel plenty of cool air in to stop you overheating while mesh netting in the front ones stops wasps and other baddies getting in your barnet.

As for build-quality - no real problems, although the writing is made up of stickers that sit on the outside of the shell so it's quite easy to catch a corner accidentally.

In conclusion...

Very lightweight lid with good ventilation and easy adjustment
